Alcaraz, except for the 2nd set, played very well. Faced ZERO break points in the three sets that he won. Serve was there when he needed it in the 4th. Completely outplayed Sinner. In the 2nd set he tried to play toe to toe with Sinner and lost. He turned to more variety again in the 3rd. deployed some nice dropshot and slices when needed.

The seeds for Sinner's final performance were already there in the Shapovalov and FAA matches. I was still surprised by HOW atrocious Sinner's serving was in the final. Nobody can win with 49% 1st serve and 48% 2nd serve points won. He won 69% of his 1st serves that he made. It's not even like he made many aces, he made zero aces in the 3rd or 4th set, and just one in each of the first two sets. Whatever his team works on, his serve needs a lot of attention and work.

Last thing, really dumb commentators saying that Alcaraz has less points to defend so he has a higher chance of ending YE #1... Obviously, it doesn't matter - even if Alcaraz had a million points to defend, it wouldn't matter.

Only the 3rd man in history to win multiple majors on all 3 surfaces after Djokovic and Nadal, I think.

6th major at 22 years of age. Congratulations young man.
Wilander too. The OG to do it. 2 grass AOs, 1 HC AO and 1 HC USO, and 3 FOs.

I honestly thought Sinner shifted the momentum after set 2, but Alcaraz was just unplayable on the 3rd which to me defined the match. Really proud of Carlos for turning this around after Wimbledon, when many said he wouldn't get any more Slams outside of RG. Vamos!

On another note, 2 slams, 2 years on a row each. Big 2 is officially a thing.

Cahill was pretty much standing up the entire 3rd. Not sure if that counts as trying to change the match but I don't remember them standing so often this season, not even in Rome or RG
simone is usually quite chatty with advice when things aren’t going well… i didn’t hear a single word of advice this time

famously for his first slam, he told jannik to change his return position after losing the first two sets and that changed the match

in wimbledon after the first set he mentioned something about the backhand i can’t remember rn

When Sampras won his 14th Slam, I thought nobody would ever beat that. Then when Federer reached 20, I was convinced that was the end of tennis history. But when I saw Djokovic winning his 25th at the 2023 US Open, I thought it was mathematically impossible for anyone to surpass it. I know it’s still a long road, but now I’m not so sure anymore.
Joker could've won his 25th therein or maybe even the 26th if he had played Wimb'20 and AO/USO'22.

Check this btw, insane similarity. View attachment 433799
Alcaraz didn't get external help prior to this match, so I find his win more impressive.
I'd be glad if it means Alcaraz isn't going to win a single set on hard courts against Sinner anymore, but we all know it's almost impossible. I'll settle for Sinner winning 3 hard court matches out of 4 against Alcaraz from now on.

Carlitos finishing year n1 for sure.
2600 points difference
Unless Sinner has a combo of a Masters title+final and another undefeated YEC title combined with Alcaraz doing poorly in these tournaments (which is very much possible).

Big titles:

Nadal = 18
Alcaraz = 14
Djokovic = 6
Federer = 3
Sinner = 1
and lets the expectation to keep on track (for the slam record) from here to 5 years in time..

Federer finished 2008 with 13 slams
Nadal finished 2013 with 13 slams
Djokovic finished 2014 with 7 slams

That would be Alcaraz at the end of 2030 season

He needs to win 7 out of the coming 20 slams (a bit above the third of the coming slams in the next 5 years), to keep on a good pace to fight seriously for the slam record
that could very well 2 slams in 2026, 1 slams in 2027, 2 slams in 2028 , 1 slam in 2029 and 1 slam in 2030 to just tie age-wise Nadal and Federer, so if he remains injury free, there are more than enough chances for him to even end that period and be still above the big 3 with lets say 14 slams (and who knows even more)
