So im having a discussion with someone right now whos telling me that tennis doesnt need much concentration like diving, running, gymnastics and field events. My point to her was basically that different sport need different tympes of concentration such as sustained concentration(tennis), short bursts of concentration (golf, field events) and intense concentration (skiing, running).

In tennis ur actually playing against an opponent and umust perform well throughout most of the match to win it. (unless ur opponent is ranked way below u) Once u start losing concentration for a short while even , u have a bigger chance of losing the set. Losing one big point is not easily forgotten and u cant just go on to the next point like its a different story. At least thats what players are trying to do.

I dont follow diving or skiing but she follows neither so any help would be appreciated from those of you who might know soomething.;) And if u have u can add any reliable sources that would be great

Chess, Bridge, Go and the like.
:yeah:

Chess is usually thought of as a game not sport. Formula 1, I haven't searched that link, yes your life depends on split second actions but the end result of the competition need not.
Well, you are right if you draw the line under "sport" as something that requires physical activity, but in terms of overall effort, chess, bridge, go can be qualified as sports.

I would say racing #1 because your life depends on focusing 110%.

Followed by any sport where it's just one person out there like tennis, skiing, skating, and boxing. It's just you or you w/a partner out there so you can't slack off for awhile and let your teammates take over.

Of course, I'm focusing on major sports. There may be less hyped sports where you need a lot of sustained concentration.

chess players having dope tests would be wicked.

i think cycling requires a lot of concentration. i mean you gotta concentrate on all of your rivals at the same time and make split second decisions about whether you are going to follow them or not, and those decisions ultimately decide who wins the race
