I mean... it's a great story for the cousins, I guess.

Rinderknech is playing impressive tennis. The best I've seen anybody play this week. Obviously it doesn't mean he is going to win the tournament but he's on really good form.

As for FAA this match pretty much sums up his career so far. Anytime he's been in a position to step up and win something big he's come up FAR short.

Congrats to Rinderknech for breaking new ground and continuing on his run here in Shanghai.

As for Rune & Felix very disappointing. Now they both have to rapidly head for Stockholm & Brussels respectively where they hope to take out separate 250's that they almost could've achieved in points they they already could've themselves here in Shanghai by winning matches they should've.

Not just that they're both playing Basel days after that & then straight to the Paris Masters & THEN Felix is penciled in for Metz immediately after.

Who knows,Rune might do the same for either Athens or Metz?

Lot of hustling & bustling in a 3 week period alone at crunch time.

Two unseeded players in a Masters SF in the 32-seed system, who also happen to be cousins. Not what fans of high quality tennis would like to see.
Commiserations @weakeraprophet, that must be a nightmare to watch.

Indeed. And that is why I have said that the current field is weak. I hope Medvedev returns to form and sets things straight.

Btw, there was one instance when two unseeded players met in the final of a Masters tournament. One was ranked 31st (so he would be just inside top-32) and the other 191st!

Of course, it happened in the weak era.

@The Hero Cop Mark You're right to notice the name has a distinctly German ring to it. Rinderknech is of German origin, translating roughly to "cattleman" or "cowhand," and it's not uncommon to find such names in French regions bordering Germany, like Alsace, which have a complex history.

However, Arthur's immediate family is French. His father is Pascal Rinderknech, who is the director of a tennis club in Paris. His mother, Virginie Paquet, is also French and a former professional player herself. So, while the surname likely points to German ancestry somewhere down the family tree, Arthur was born in Gassin and represents France.
