I have to laugh. This thread is a both bombardment and bombastic

But after the growing pains, its good to see Shelton win such a big title.

He has a lot of technical issues to work through but he is clearly on the right track.

I am not too bothered how he does in Cincinnati should he play it. He wants to save his energy for the US Open.

Last year, 3745 was the point level of the last entrant. Shelton at 3410 is just 335 points away from that. Cincy SF or USO QF guarantees this with 95% confidence.
He's in.

Even if he loses first up in Cincy & 1st Round at the US OPEN just by playing the 500's that follow in the Indoor Season 2 wins here & 2 wins there will all add up.... and whatever happens he could just shoehorn a tournament late in if need be like Rublev/Ruud & De Minaur in the final 250's of the year.

There will be at least 3 new players making their debut this year I think.

Thats like every thread here. OP w the nickname going on a year now? For starters....

Shelton triggers everyone. I think it's funny. He's just a frat boy with a racket. Probably jams Hootie in the car with the fam.

He's the only guy out there right now that can make things interesting against Sinner/Alcaraz. Maybe Fils if hes healthy
Was just a few weeks back where the guy could barely make a dent on the Sinner serve at Wimbledon & could barely manufacture any bp's.

He has to play well just to stretch it to a tiebreak and even then 1 mistake & he's mercilessly punished for it.

Didn't you say you ONLY follow live rankings?
Schedule is a bit different b/c no Olympics and Canada / Cincy overlapped, so everyone's points came off at weird times (Korda, Popyrin, etc.). It was neater to give Ben more time at 6.

Ben breaks the Canada champion's curse! Wins his opening match in Cincy 6-3 3-1 in 63 mins. Now 11-0 against Argentinian players. Sheltough will face Rubber Barista Agutteral in R3.

Bentu was up a set and an early break, serving at 2-1 15-0 when Carabelly's pre-existing knee injury flared up during awkward forward movement (hitting it with the racquet also didn't help). After a MTO, Ben held to love for 3-1 and it was curtains on the matchstick. Oh no, Ugo! "Get better, Camilo" wrote, Shelton.

Needs to beat the old Rubber to remain 6th after Cincy.
Not that many points to defend. R3 USO, Nippon QF, Basil F. Wouldn't be surprised if he elects to focus more on the Masters & Turin. No need to overplay post-Slams. Gotta stay fresh for Turin.

I came across this stat from Tennis Insights to add to those surrounding Shelton's Toronto title run.

Thanks. Added the photo upthread. Not always a fan of 52-week sample for this very reason. Too much carryover from previous year. ATP Leaderboard stats are somewhat skewed b/c of this. There's no option to select current year/season. Here you see a better indicator and representation of Ben's improved form across the 2025 season.
