Excuse me?! Sounds like sabotage! How appauling.
Nothing quite so exciting, more likely a member of staff cleaning out the lockers prematurely.
Was it possible to buy some from insoles from a local farmacia? I know there's some stores in Grand Via-Sol & Cheuca. Just look for the green plus sign.
He did have a replacement set, but apparently they weren't worn in and were stiffer than he was used to.

3 more players retired due to injury in Shanghai today:

Atmane - ?illness?
Wu - left thigh
Medjedovic - not sure, could hardly walk before he retired, though

This just undermines that this season has had unusually high rates of retirements. I wonder what's the current number @artoisdesouza?

That takes the number up to 110 retirements/walkovers so far for the season.

Conditions are brutal in Shanghai in terms of the heat and humidity. Atmane may have been suffering from illness or heat stroke, and Medjedovic had MTOs for a few different issues including his back, but there's no doubt that he was affected by the conditions too.
(Atmane: "I was suffocating after every point... I felt like no matter what I was doing, I just couldn't breathe."
Medjedovic: "How can you let us play in these conditions? Under this roof, there is no air. There is zero air in here.")

Other players have been struggling too. Fucsovics completed his match, but lay down on the court at 1-4 in the 3rd set and told the umpire that he was dying, before eventually losing the next 2 games and the match. Zhang was cramping towards the end of the 3rd set of his match, around the 2 hour mark and went on to lose.
