Novak already set a few records in this tournament: oldest ever Masters QFist and oldest ever Masters SFist. And if he wins Shanghai, he'll be the oldest ever Masters winner. Not to mention winning Shanghai for an unprecedented 5th time which is often considered the 5th Slam.

But other than the insane achievement of winning Shanghai at an ancient age, he also has to go through a gauntlet of peaking Next Gen and even past gen stars.

This draw is so fucking hard that Sinner lost early and Alcaraz didn't dare show up. Let that sink in.

To win Shanghai and in this brutal weather as well, one needs insane mental strength but also a super high level.

I truly in my heart believe this would be one of the greatest, if not the greatest, achievements in tennis history. And I'm here for it.

Who do you think you’re fooling moron? He has had the WEAKEST draw imaginable

This era is so ridiculously weak & pathetic that when sincaraz don’t show up you have an absolutely finished Djokovic & washed “Medvedev” making SF’s / F’s

Without sincaraz, that pathetic vulture would be sitting on 30+ slams. His scam job over the last few yrs is so obvious

Not the greatest achievement but an important leg in completing a fine achievement - getting the stand-alone record for most hard court titles and surpass Federer in the number of titles (it's currently 108 titles each).

More Djokovic records IF IF IF he wins Shanghai:

1.Oldest Masters Series Winner
2.Most hardcourt titles won- Will go past Fed's 71
3.Longest Masters First Title to Last title- Currently Federer holds this one at 16 years & 10 months to Djokovic's 16 years & 7 months... A title in Shanghai will make it 18 years and 9 months.

... He hasn't won a hardcourt title now for 23 months so it's been a while..

This reminds me a lot of TB12's last ring run with the Bucs. Got gifted a mega team with great D, the COVID year, and a choking Aaron Rodgers in the NFCCG. Greats used to fall way harder years ago. They even chased MJ out of DC. But he still has to close the deal

Why should it be? we always have to look at the CONETXT. who did he beat? the titans of the sport such as Bergs or Munar? Those Djokovic should able to beat until he is 50yo, if he wants to be considered the GOAT...

Munar, Bergs, Vacherot...

Given the most extreme weather conditions ever seen on a tennis court, it will take a Herculean effort to win Shanghai and only the strongest can survive.

We saw Sinner and many other players wilt in the heat and Alcaraz didn't bother showing up. So, it speaks volumes how insanely difficult it is to win Shanghai.

I don't want to celebrate too early though because waiting is Vacherot who is playing like a man possessed.

I'll be back in the next day or two. :wavey:

Of course it is. Beating titans of the game like Rinderknech and Vacherot to win a masters 1000 is the greatest achievement in tennis. Winning the french open 14 times is nothing compared to beating two challenger level players most people had not heard of befor this tournament.

Dragos Dima winning the the 2018 Sibiu Challenger as a considerable underdog until the Finals was 100× more impressive than Novak cruising through a 🧁 draw as a massive favorite in each match. With that said, TVR winning Hertogenbosch in 2022 was 1000x more impressive
