I like Marat and he seems to me by the far the most liked player on the board but why  He's got a good game to watch and a fun if fiery personality but for some players if they are like this they get hated Marat gets more popular. I can't think of one person on the board that dislikes and it's not like Marat's perfect.

Marat's one of my favourite players but just curious on why everything he does he good while other players when they do things are just :retard:

Not a hating thread ;)

He's so popular not only on this board, but in the world as well.

That's for many reasons:
-He's advertized by the press.
-He's good looking.
-He's got the game.
-He has one hell of a personality.
-he's Marat Safin (this includes everything else that he is, that he does, which no one can list fully).

I like Marat because of his game and his personality. Plus, he's an oaf, and looking at my favourites list there is not one player who isn't one.

If he was ugly, people would find him less tolerable. Frankly, I can hardly tolerate him half the time, but meh. I can't imagine following the results of somebody who apparently doesn't care sometimes.... but that's just me.

I think Marat is so popular because he is different from all other players, he is a very interesting character, he does some things that are unique and he has so many different qualities... his personality is one of the extremes, he is so f*cking funny and a bit crazy in a very natural way, always entertaining in matches, has a firy temperament on the court, is so unpredictable, says what he thinks, his easy going attitude off the court, the cool side, yet he is a very nice and sweet guy with a big heart, (very popular with fellow players, fans and press) his charming side, his sensitive side, he is very smart and wise and and and...
and of course he has one hell of a game, and when its on its one of the best or maybe the best, but unfortunaly mostly it isnt. Anyway, i think another reason is, that he has such big mental issues that he once plays amazing and the other day he wouldn`t win against his grandma. He had so many ups and downs in his career and thats interesting for the people to follow him. You never know whats gonna happen. It all depends on the way he feels each day.
Another factor is that he is very good looking and expresses an unbelievable sexyness (without trying), that attracts many women.

I accept his up and downs but I don't enjoy them in the slightest. I've been following his career since 1998. In my more bitter moments I wonder if it's really Marat to blame for the fact that half my hair is already grey at the age of 29. If he just learnt some basic stability, I'd be the happiest fan on earth.

I know, thats a real torture for all Marat Fans. I`m already living through this since 5 years, too, but at the same time its part of beeing Marat`s Fan. Hell, its so frustrating, but quite interesting especially in the phychology part, and we can also take it with humour, like Marat also does and in that way we can enjoy the happy moments even more in a special way. If Marat would play at same level for most of the time, he wouldn`t be Marat Safin. But i agree, A LIL bit more stability wouldnt hurt ;)

Marat is so popular because he's VERY sexy and VERY funny. The only reasons why I like him.

I can't take his game seriously, however. He's obviously extremely talented... but if he doesn't care half the time, I sure as hell won't either.

When you say oaf what do you mean vass? because the real meaning is stupid and clumsy, which he surely isnt.
True, he isn't clumsy. :p

I was just getting ready for a tennis match today and so I decided to watch some tennis. I whipped out my SF w/ Safin and Fed at the Masters Cup and I just thought to myself "If Safin had a cool temper, he could be right up there with Federer". He's extremly talented like many people said and his personality is very fun to watch on court. But when he is concitrated, there is no stopping him.

Of course, his looks don't hurt at all. But his looks didn't win him the big matches, his amazing talent did.

i think he's talented but i don't particularly like to watch him play. i think he can be really immature sometimes. he is really hot though which helps...

I would have said that same thing... if only grey hair would not have been mentioned...

As my english is too bad...I'll let the french newspaper "Liberation" express my personal feelings. ;)

The saviour of the Australian Open "Hercules with the face of an innocent" - Safin is a star. A champion - a superb player and a clown.

With the journalists Marat is the funniest, the most unpredictable tennismen, flinging a barrage of awful things while turning red like a young girl (or tossing off loads of outrageous remarks while blushing like a young girl.).

Safin is the real treasure. He has the tennis ability and athletic quality of Sampras, the cold-bloodness of Agassi, the arrogance of Kafelnikov, the humour and the crazyness of Ivanisevic, the sense of spectacle and party of Noah Yannick. With a little extra, something so russian: the look of danger, of mystery, that he redeems. Well, Marat is a credible hero."

Nice quote Bea! I agree with what Andrea has posted.

As has been said before, Marat doesn't try to be cool, he's just him. If you don't believe it, then just look for his quotes about Anna K and all the monet that can be made off court. He doesn't want to do it. He's just a nice guy trying to enjoy life.
