Last season he was superb. We were joking and calling him Kec, and some Serb posters were getting angry and stuff. What happened to him, why is he so mediocre this year?

First of all, you were calling him Kek, which is both super annoying and incorrect pronunciation.
Second thing, he seems to be struggling with confidence and to find the right coach.
Third, him being a little bit bulky for a tennis player, some weight loss is preferable.
Once he sort at least one of those things there's no reason why he couldn't have at least a Norrie-like career.

He has had one good match against Alacaraz in a losing cause in America. Don't really remember anything spectacular beyond that. That was it.

Same like FAA, Hurkacz, Coric, et al., whose playing forms are always up and down.

just another mug like gulbis who only shows up for the big players , now he has fallen off as expected after the initial high of his successful run.

mug->journeyman->good player->high quality player->great player->ATG

Most players are at the bottom of the spectrum, consistent results over time will eventually tell the story. Some mad runs happen all the time from random ass players but it dries up eventually.

Time happened, loss of form happened. Maybe a coach change and some more motivation would be needed, as from the upcoming Serbian players he seems to be still the greatest prospect overall.

It seems like he may have been playing above himself during his run last year. Still, he's quite young so it's definitely too early to write him off.
