Politically Correct

They're a kind of SE thing because the start and end days of the Chinese tournies are unusual basically from what i've gathered. It's like they are still there for Nishioka and Safiullin if they still want them, or something i dunno. (cos those are the two guys that have been replaced by the personal computer, two guys in finals this week)

This. Scourge of modern society - most people these days are of the passive agressive PC variety

Protected ranking ("PR") or Special ranking ("SR") :

Players injured for a minimum of six months can ask for a protected ranking, which is based on their average ranking during the first three months of their injury.

The player can use their protected ranking to enter tournaments' main draws or qualifying competitions when coming back from injury (or some occurrences such as Covid-19 frozen ranking concerns in 2020–21). It is not used for seeding purposes.

It is also used in the WTA for players returning from pregnancy leave.

Still no answer.

Garin and Kotov got in under the ALT designation, and they were 3rd and 4th on the ALT list so it all ended up seeming normal.

So was this just another weird awful Chinese translation thing? Like when they put a Panda Bear on the toilets sign or you order something at a restaurant called "Blue funny funny brick of moon"

The confusion continues in Vienna. 1 ALT already placed, so why not #2 and #3? Maybe the ALTs are given limited time to confirm that they want to take the place? For instance, Nagal is the next-in in Vienna, but already accepted the ALT into Basel.

absolutely no idea, why not just continue to write “ALT” as normal ? 🤷
