TheTennisLetterNovak Djokovic did not want to speak about his physical issues after his loss to Vacherot, ‘I want to congratulate Valentin… Going from qualifications, it's an amazing story… it’s all about him’ “How do you feel after this match, how much did you risk to continue, and can I just ask you maybe next week you will just rest or you think to go to Arabia?” Novak: “I want to congratulate Valentin for reaching his first Masters final. Going from qualifications, it's an amazing story. I told him at the net that he's had an amazing tournament, but more so his attitude is very good, and his game was amazing as well. So it's all about him. I wish him all the best in the finals, and the better player won today.” “Can you talk about your physical condition?” Novak: “No. Next question, please.”
Very interesting theory, considering the court we're talking about.Since their idol could not do anything to Novak
As they say, slowly, then all at once.At some point, the decline becomes gradual.
Last season, he had a similar match against Cerundolo at Roland Garros. Also played through injury, and was on the verge of losing the match. But once he saw Cerundolo choking at the end of the 4th, he stepped up. Here, he had a sure opener for a comeback when Vacherot was serving for the match. But he just couldn't step up![]()
As a sports enthusiast, you should understand Djokovic's motivation to continue playing this match until the very end, even not at 100%.No,as a sports enthusiast I'm calling it as it is & being consistent about it.
When Fed went through this I made my observations.
Likewise with Nadal during his painful 2024 year where every match was a massive battle for him (Apart from Darwin Blanch.. LOL)
Same for Murray when he kept blowing matches and running out of gas.
And I've done the same for Wawrinka in the last 2 years as well.
When it's time.... it's time..
I repeatedly said over the years many times over that my prediction that the Big 3 won't retire.... but 'be made to retire' with their bodies breaking down on them.
Am I wrong?? If so,please state how?
Only hardcore tards deny the painful inevitable.
He gets injured in almost every tournament. He retired at AO against Zverev (also had an MTO against Alcaraz), he was supposedly injured against Sinner at WB, I believe that he had MTOs at USO (e.g. vs Norrie) and FO (e.g. vs Moutet). Djokovic also took an MTO in his final against Mensik, and probably numerous others. It looks like it has something to do with conditions. Very humid and it plays havoc with a stamina of much younger players: Sinner, etc. So I'm not convinced that this was a sign of the perpetual decline of Djokovic.
I do.As a sports enthusiast, you should understand Djokovic's motivation to continue playing this match until the very end, even not at 100%.

As long as he plays top-10 tennis and he is not crippled like Fedal, he can continue.I do.
As I also understood Fed's motivation to keep playing.... and Rafa's.... and Murray's and so on and so on.
I'm not trying to anger you or other fans of Novak & be a deliberate harbinger of doom but merely state the facts on what's transpired exponentially in his matches this year with more medical timeouts, more injuries & ailments than ever.
The miles have caught up to him.Now if he wants to kick on- then more power to him & that's his right.
However,it's also mine to point out.. and to his fans also.. that they should then expect a decline in results they reaaaaalllly won't like... nor expect in their minds.
You want him to kick on in 2026? Ok... but don't be sad, frustrated or angry if/when loses 2nd/3rd round 'possibly' in some of these slams as that's what happens when you play into the year you turn 39.
What else would you expect? Somebody has to be the voice of reason and address that.
Personally,my last memory of him playing a slam would be to reminisce how he made the semi's at aged 38................... not getting dumped by an unheralded player in the 2nd or 3rd round.
What say you?
Not true. That's unbelievable!! One of the biggest upsets of the year. Congrats Vacherot, into a masters final.
The last remaining member of the big 3 is starting to look done.
