Daniil is officially back! Great match, with multiple BPs saved along the way. ADM couldn't fight through his serve and defense today. Some shots Med pulled out were like he was back to his old wall beast mode.

Onto the SF against Rinderknech, whom he definitely should beat.

Paolini did win Rome and made Cincy final this year so better form than Meddy. But otherwise agree.

For sure now after he finds out Alcaraz has pulled out and he was due to meet him in the 4th round.

He has a punchers chance to make it to the Quarters.. perhaps more with his draw as the top half is fairly weak.

Once I saw his draw the second the Shanghai draw came out & saw that it was against some of the players he toweled easily in Beijing... I knew he had a good chance to pounce here and posted this a day or so before the tournament.

Congrats on reaching the semi's Daniil!

Medvedev looked very good in this match.
His ball striking reminiscent of when he was at his best on hard courts.
Forehands and backhands hit hard and flat right into the corners.
He obviously likes the China 🇨🇳 conditions and the court.
Demon 😈 just not quite enough firepower to get this one tonight, but fought hard to the end as he always does.

Match result is almost the story of ADM's career.... he loses that ONE match that could propel him to the next level.

Loses to Felix at the US OPEN and throws away a maiden slam semi's spot.

Should've led 5-1 against Djokovic at Wimbledon in the 4th with a good chance to spring an upset in the 5th & then be the favorite to beat Cobolli to reach the semi's.

Loses here & would've been favorite to reach the final & be in good form & fitness to finally bag the biggest title of his career.

This loss now sets him back.He could've reached 5th in the world at the end of this tournament but a Djokovic victory over Vacherot will mean Novak has the Number 4 ranking until at least Basel (Fritz is playing) whilst Alex has to regroup now and try to kick on.

You`re right about Shanghai, I`ve never seen it so slow. Shanghai, until recently, was the fastest Masters 1000 and even faster than the AO until it sped up. But you`re wrong about Medvedev and Indian Wells. He HATES slow conditions and called Indian Wells a clay court without the dirt. Complained a lot how slow it is.

This era is so ridiculously weak & pathetic that when sincaraz don’t show up you have an absolutely finished Djokovic & washed “Medvedev” making SF’s / F’s

Without sincaraz, that pathetic vulture would be sitting on 30+ slams. His scam job over the last few yrs is so obvious
Yeah it kinda reminds me of the 2004-2007 era. Without Nadal and Federer Agassi would have won over a dozen slams and even Roddick might have won another one. Hewitt couldn`t, his hips were already gone.

This win sees Medvedev climb up a few spots to Number 13 and if he takes out the title back into the Top 10 ranked 9th.

It will also give him hope for Turin as Draper isn't playing & pretty likely Djokovic which won't leave him too far back off the pack if he does so.

As for defending points he lost in his first match in the Paris Masters last year so he can pick up as well... also add another event if need be.

It's somewhat surprising Medvedev has reached more Big semifinals this season than Rune and De Minor given the seasons these players had, but this is what happened.
Medvedev served better than normal, his baseline game was rather solid. De Minor, on the other hand, didn't come to this match with the right tactics, wasn't going enough to the net off the serve or the second shot and when he came to the net mid-rally he was making numerous mistakes.
An easier win than expected for Medvedev who will be the favourite against Rinderknech. But so were Zverev, Lehečka and FAA. Can Medvedev show that when playing his best, he's made of another material?

Good win by Med, easier than expected. He is playing his best tennis this year right now. He hits harder, moves better and is more composed, looks like changing his team was the right call. His third top 10 win this season, the previous two were against Zverev. Let's see if he can keep this form going forward.

First set was the best Medvedev has hit his backhand — in terms of both speed and placement — in what feels like ages. Forehand was very good, too. Of course, De Minaur lacking power to really rush him helped but he was obliterated by AdM in Monte Carlo earlier in the season so that was still a massive improvement.
I thought Med's level dipped a bit in the second set, he lost some pace and depth off the ground but in the final two games De Minaur, on several occasions, having a fairly simple midcourt putaway went to Med's backhand instead of open court — and Med came up with impeccable DTLs to steal those key points.

Top 10 win #50 for Med. Fourth active player and 24th overall to reach this mark.

Medevedev has been close to winning his past 2 losses, its all in the head with him.

One of the best matches from Daniil lately. He has been trying to transition into a more aggressive player as he ages, with very mixed results. I thought he was heading in the right direction when I watched the way he played in AO 2024, but it went downhill from there. Today was a similar performance where he went for his shots on both wings and was the more aggressive player.

Might have been out of necessity because it looks like he was physically suffering more that his opponent. He used the challenge system multiple times to catch his breath after long rallies. If this was Djokovic, this forum would have been up in arms already, but the double standards continue ....

That was vintage Meddy hitting, combined with crazy Meddy mental state, with all the DF hit in the last game of the first set.

In the end, he was super clutch and didn't let one of the best returners in the game break him.
