Imagine the amount of money you would have made if you bet on Rinderknech and Vacherot making the final, with Vacherot winning the title in the end. Insane. The lowest-ranked Masters 1000 titlist ever, but again, here comes the question of whether this is how the Masters 1000 should conclude. World #54 and #204 playing each other in the final... yeah, a very unusual outcome, but a nice story nevertheless.

Masters 1000 champion and, I suspect, walking bye for 365 days at ATP level

Vacherot's story is pretty wild but tennis nowadays is a desert aside from the two generational talents, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, hopefully the average tour level increases again because I can't even bother to watch many matches these days.

People constantly bitch and complain about a non-rank winning a title.
I see no issue w/ a talented non-rank like Vacherot who proved that he deserved to win this title.
The guy had a draw from hell and he did this as a NCAA-level tennis player who nearly lost in 3 sets to the first two opponents who were also NCAA-level
before laying the smackdown on some ATP veterans, including the GOAT.
From over rank 200 to 40...just wow...!
Vacherot I hope you have an amazing career ahead of you!
Very humble, talented, let's see what the future has in store for him.

People who bitch about this run aren't true fans of the sport.

Truly impressive. 😶

As an alternate, he benefited from Fonseca's withdrawal... which benefited Nardi... and Vacherot was able to make the Q.

Then he plays the qualifiers to make it to the final draw.

Probably the first Q to win a MS, and I wonder if he's the first non-seed to win a 96-player MS... before recent years, only IW and Miami had this format....
Albert Portas won Hamburg 2001 as a qualifier. He beat Ferrero in the final, in what turned out be the only title of his career.
Carretero won Hamburg 1996 as a qualifier, but back then it was still referred to as a Super 9. As to the surprise factor, this win is right up there with Carretero. Although Carretero was ranked # 143.

Just a great story isn't it? Reminds me of that random Dutch guy who won a few years ago in one of the Wimbledon warm ups but even that is far away from masters title.

Was watching a YT video only the other week that someone had put together of players who came from nowhere to have great runs at slams and/or win a major title. Cecchinato, Karastev and Carretero all mentioned in that so Vacherot joins this intruiging outsiders GOAT hall of fame now.

Right, I was thinking about that too.
Useful to remind them

But I was talking about the "two-week" MSs, so with 96 players and no byes for the non-seeded players ofc.

Until very recently, only IW and Miami had this format.
