Someone Else?

Ljubicic, he somehow managed to get Federer sick at Brisbane and injured a couple of weeks later. And Raonic is showing he didn't quite need him either.

This. I don't see what he brought to Fed's game. Federer wasted 3 years with him as between 2010-12, Fed was still good enough physically to win against Nadal and Djokovic in slams and he also had his old racquet. If only he had hired Edberg in 2010 instead of useless Anacone, he could have won maybe another slam or two during 2010-12.

I completely disagree with the choices in your post. Mauresmo is always complained about so she can't possibly be overated - she's badly rated by most and if anything underated in that sense. Lendl was a great coach - Murray would be slamless without him, that I'm confident of. Edberg may not have got Roger a slam but his influence on Federer's play is clear, unlike say Paul Annacone - so I could go for Annacone or maybe Roger Rasheed who just beefs people up but leaves them incapable of any tennis skill or IQ.

Gulbis calls his coach "the best technical coach out there". If you watch his ongoing struggle with his forehand you can only come to the conclusion that he massively overrates his coach.

On a serious note: With an outside view this is hard if not impossible to tell. It's hard to judge the actual input the coaches give their charges. Also it's an individual sport and every player has his own needs. So one coach can be perfect for one player but just not click with another player.

Who here actually has a clue about what goes on behind the scenes between a coach and player?

Larry Stefanki wins this one. I remember the commentators and pundits that were stiil kissing Stefanki's ass in 2011 for Roddick's run in Wimbledon 09 although Andy was losing to all king of mugs and his ranking was droping big time.
