Very likely Santoro's last match with wasting match point. Here's the list of his MP-up defeats:

1992
2 - Ivanisevic (Barcelona-Olympics)
1993
3 - Stich (Long Island)
1994
1 - Delaitre (Roland Garros)
1995
2 - Pereira (US Open)
1 - Palmer (Toulouse)
1997
1 - Portas (Stuttgart)
1999
3 - M.Norman (Auckland)
2002
1 - Henman (Rotterdam)
2003
3 - Schalken (Dubai)
2005
2 - Safin (Halle)
2006
1 - Berdych (Wimbledon)
4 - Benneteau (Paris)
2009
1 - Kiefer (Miami)
3 - Korolev (Bangkok)

It can be incomplete because I've been carefully making this stats since 1998  I know that Santoro wasted also match points in two Challenger matches: 4 against Moldovan (Poznan 1996) and 1 against Gaudio (Bordeaux 2009). Probably had also at least one match point against Monfils in Tunis 2005 because lost 5-7 6-3 6-7(9). I know only two cases with 11-9 without savin SP...

Voo, I talked to Lapentti about his stat of never losing a match after having Match Point yesterday in BS AS.

He told me lost once, its this:

1998 Cincinatti
S Draper def N Lapentti 64 46 75

:wavey:

He had one match point.

Just saw he lost some Match Points against Dosedel as well.

By the way, I talked to him about being 6 matches away from the 5set winning matches all time leader, he laughed about it and told me he would try to do it  He was amazed about some of the stats i talked to him about.

Thank you. I'll add it to my MP-stats. Ask him, if you can, about matches with McGuire (Coral Springs 1996) and Dosedel (Key Biscayne 1998) and hail him from me :wavey:

Has there been a situation like that in the past that a player retired after wasting matchpoints ?
Yes, Massu def. Roitman 2 years ago in Vina del Mar 0-6 7-6(3) ret. after saving 7 mp's as well.

Has there been a situation like that in the past that a player retired after wasting matchpoints ? How will you count it today ?

Gonzo had 7 matchpoints (*4-5 15-40 and three advantages and *5-6 15-40)
Not a 21st century match, not even Open Era, but the most high-profile match to feature this was:
Wimbledon 1960 QF - Neale Fraser def. Earl Buchholz 4-6 6-3 4-6 15-15 ret. (saved 6 MPs)

Fraser was the #1 player at the time, his opponent a 19 year-old who shortly rose to prominence that year after winning several junior slam titles. The young American has already beaten the Australian twice coming to this match, and was clearly the better player on the day, holding with ease throughout the 4th set, but an ankle injury, cramps and heat exhaustion forced his retirement.
Fraser went on to win the title, beating Laver in close 4 sets in the final.

You could add Hanescu-Brands from Wimbledon this year to the list...Hanescu had 4 MP's in the third set and retired in the 5th...

4 - Fyrstenberg/Matkowski (Ferrer/Montanes)
It's doubles, according to my stats he has never lost after wasting MP in singles! When I give MP-stats in some GM threads, I don't count doubles matches.
