Potchefstroom CH
R1: d. Ortego Olmedo (7) 7-5 6-3
R2: vs Simon 6-3 4-6 5-4... cancelled due to the virus.

He had a great opportunity to go deep in this challenger but health is more important obviously.

He has had a few ups and downs . Had Covid at the start of the year . Lost a ITF final in Czech Republic on clay and also won his first two matches on tour at queens .

since losing too Norrie at Queens he has lost every match .

That’s four straight losses . Really hope he stops the rot soon .

hasn’t played a hard court tournament since March .

been playing clay then grass then back too clay .

Should be playing the Seville Challenger next week .

Could really do with stopping the rot .

I saw some of his match he played well . Lost too qualifier Vavassori 6-4 , 2-6 , 6-3 .

was ranked way below him . I just hope he is learning from these losses .

he ball bashes too much on clay .

Won a match in a challenger in Seville and then retired before the end of set 1 in round 2 .
Seems too have a health issue possibly a bad lung or lungs from having Covid .

I’m only speculating but this has happened so much recently and I have seen him ask for oxygen during matches a few times .

if this continues for a month or two more I expect a retirement sadly ?

Good and bad news . The good news . He’s back fully fit .
The bad news he lost 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 6-4 too Tomas Machac in a Challenger round 1 in Eckental Germany . Played well for the most part but managed too squander a 4-2 lead in the deciding set .

most importantly he is back injury free .

Won his first round of a challenger in Ortisei Italy against Gomez 6-4 6-2 . A saw quite a bit of the match and either Gomez was injuried or he is severely over ranked .

Draper played well though . So so pleased he is fit again .

Won his second round 6-4 7-6 against Miedler . This is just the kind of thing I have been dying too see from him fully fit and playing well .

I think his movement is pretty suspect though and will need some work . Ground strokes and serve is top notch though. His first serve must be about 130 mph .

The Ortisei courts are really fast, so this would be a good week to climb up the rankings, and hopefully get some form for the last few challengers of the season. Could still come close to AO qualies with some more win.

Seems to finally have found his consistency. If he stays away from injuries, he could make it to the top 100 very soon :)
Yeah hopefully he can get a wildcard here or there . I’m sure he’ll be getting one soon after two Challenger wins .

Won a third Challenger in forli . ( two back to back) reaches a career high of 145 .

Will be interesting to see where he plays next .

1st round is Gilles Simon . Not sure what to make of it . I know Simon is a very difficult player too hit through though so we’ll see how it pans out .

I am a big fan of Draper's. He has a chance against Simon. It is great he was given that wildcard. His ranking is on the way up. A win against Simon will only help. Hoping to see alot of him during the grass court season, hopefully Wimbledon will recognize his talents.
