I would say Fed not winning a slam for 3 years (since 2012 Wimbledon) was a dip in form. Do you not agree?
Depends on how you define a "dip". I see it as something temporary before normal service is resumed. Federer won no slams between 2012 and 2017. 5 years isn't a dip, it's more a natural progression of a player in his thirties with significantly younger rivals of similar abilities.

That's exactly how I would definitely a dip. Not winning slams for five years was not his normal level; winning slams was.
The only thing stopping him winning slams in 2014 and 2015 was Djokovic who went AWOL in 2017 and early 2018. Replace the 2017/2018 version of Djokovic with the 2015 version and it's quite possible Federer goes slamless from 2012 to retirement. There was nothing wrong with Federer's level in 2015. As I said, he made 2 slam finals and was only stopped by Djokovic in both (beating Stan along the way at USO 2015).

1. He loves tennis
2. He loves competition
3. Money
4. One slip up from Alcaraz/Sinner and him having a good day = #25
This. Close thread.

IDEK how people can't fathom 1 and 2. Do people honestly think Big 3 are hanging around or hung around purely for legacy or money? These guys are addicted and obsessed about tennis lol since they were 3 years old. It's be like telling someone to stop walking anymore.

Oh come on. He had R2 R3 and R4 slam losses during that period, the latter two of which were unheard of once he recovered from his dip.

Yea, Wawrinka is still slogging it on the Challenger tour, it's not so bad for Djokovic to still hang around the Center Court

2013 was a "dip". Federer had back trouble and his results that year were some of the worst in his career. However, Federer went slamless in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 before winning 3 in 2017/2018. So he was in a "dip" for 4 years but then recovered for a year and a bit? Also, even after recovering from his "dip" he still had slam losses to the likes of Tsitsipas, Anderson and Millman. It's not as if he returned to the all-conquering form of his twenties. As I said, the big difference between Federer's results in 2014/2015 and 2017/2018 was the form of Djokovic. Put the Djokovic who lost to the likes of Istomin in 2014/2015 and Federer likely wins 3 slams and 2014/2015 looks a lot like 2017/2018.

Explains why his last 3 events contested are all slams?

Where's the love for the 'other events'?

If he's 'completed tennis' and doesn't need to play them anymore then the 'loves tennis' statement isn't exactly 100% true,is it?

It's more like.. 'loves hanging around until the bigger fruit arrives and then trying to grab it' for opportunistic reasons and not 'joyful leisure and routine'

And that's not to be overlooked.

He loves the support of the crowd, something he's missed so much throughout his career and which he's been able to enjoy without limits since the departure of the other two.

As the last of the Mohicans, if I may say so myself, it's only natural to want to savor that.

It's something that's greatly underestimated among top players, but the crowd is an addiction, and Djokovic is particularly sensitive to this communion and to receiving its waves.

Djoker IS desperate for slam number 25. It does amuse me when Djoker fans deny this fact, and claim he has nothing to prove and is only playing for the love of tennis. That is rubbish. He only turns up at Slams and prays that Alcaraz/Sinner lose. And when they don't, he moans about them in his losing press conferences.
