Will Medvedev even finish the season in the Top 20? I hope not.

Great run for Wu, who needs to be back inside the Top 100.

Why are people acting so surprised? Med's form lately has been utter shit and Wu has been playing the best tennis of his life this week

Yes he got very lucky to win that 2nd set, but that's what happens when a player who lacks confidence is your opponent, they're more volnurable than usual

Would be incredible if Wu goes on to win this tournament

This guy played some of the best hard court tennis at that time - it was his peak. Now he is in decline - this is the usual nature of things.
Actually he didn't do anything special in that USO final, Novak lost it himself with too many uncharacteristic UEs cuz he was really feeling the pressure. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time and was lucky that there was so much on line for Novak in that match.

This!

Comparing the Medvedev of today to what he was THEN is pointless.

Totally different animal back then & how he was playing.

You can basically cherry pick any player during their famine period & destroy x for losing to that player ignoring all the other times they shone through.

Novak was plain bad in that final but saying Med didn't do anything special is pure BS.
He was in his peak form in that period&tournament, serving like a monster and not missing off the ground at all.

Anyway, this season has turned quite catastrophic for him so far and the fact he hasn't won any titles in 28 months is pretty crazy. I think he can still improve slightly and comes back to around #8-#12 range but I very much doubt he can make slam SF and/or top 5 ranking again.

It's not BS, all he had to do was keep the ball in play and Novak was making all the mistakes. Even Zverev would have beaten that version of Djokovic in the final.

Apart from his match vs Sinner in AO SF, this was one of the worst performances I've seen Novak produce, esp at such a big stage with so much on the line. But anyways it is what it is, Med def deserved to win at least 1 slam in his career, I just wish he beat Novak in the 2023 final instead lol

And yeah he's def regressed the last few years, but that's common for most players after their peak period ends. He's not the first or last player to drop in level after reaching his late 20s and early 30s
