Former world number 7. Five ATP titles, including Hamburg Masters in 1990, thrashing Becker 6-1, 6-0, 7-6. Apparently died after a long illness. I can barely remember him, but he had a nice career and I think he deserves a farewell topic on MTF.

I'm shocked. 😮

He impressively defeated Sundstrom in 1984 in Hamburg.

Sundstrom had already caused a stir in Monte Carlo by beating the favorite Mats in the final.

He beat him again in Hamburg in SF... and is well positioned to make a MC-Hamburg double.

And Aguilera shoots him in the final!

Another crazy spring on clay, it wasn't just McEnroe in 1984...

RIP Juan 😢

There are other long illnesses which are not cancer. It's just a way of saying that the person did not die unexpectedly. But the exact illness is a private matter.

RIP. Juan Aguilera had one of the best slice backhands in history.

I watched the Hamburg 1990 final where he schooled Boris Becker 6:0, 6:1, 7:6, when everybody expected Becker to win his first clay title, in front of the home crowd.

The old school clay court style brings back memories. Probably will never see it again.

Sliced Becker to death and outwitted him.

Every single player Aguilera beat for that 1990 Hamburg title made the singles top 10 at one point. Quite a nice set.

RIP, 63 is too young to die in this day and age.
