So, with Cilic winning a Masters (beating Murray), I think the line between "Useless" and "Not So Useless" IMO has been cleared a little bit. However, surely there are counterarguments of players younger than Cilic that at least my next gen baseline (or borderline), Thiem, that can be compared to those older than Cilic that you could compare achievements?

From the '88 we have someone like RBA who seems to be a natural staple among the 3rd/4th tier. Gulbis has a great record on finals, 6-0. Cilic of course wins USO and Cinci, Del Po of course has Bronze and Silver in the Olympics and USO. In 1989, we do have Nishikori. But after that we have Johnson, Klizan, Paire and Sousa -- not doing much compared to the 89' group.
