A few things of note from today's action:

[1] Sinner came back from a set down to win against Jarry. He is now on a 13 match winning streak. He also has an unbeaten record against opponents outside the top 20 stretching back for more than a year.

Mannarino came back from a set down against Sonego to record his 300th ATP win. He is apparently the 12th Frenchman to do so in the OE.

Cobolli def. [8] Bublik in 3 sets, saving a MP - one of the few players so far to be seemingly unaffected by 'the Laver Cup curse’. It’s concerning for Bublik that, since the beginning of the grass season, he has gone 5-10. Tough for him because, after Shanghai, calendar changes mean that he is playing Almaty the following week instead of defending his title in Antwerp.

Marozsan, Struff and Dimitrov all withdrew, so we now have three lucky losers in the draw: Carballes Baena (plays Khachanov), Safiullin (plays Wawrinka) and Rinderknech (plays RBA).

All the seeds playing today advanced to R16:
[1] Alcaraz, [3] Medvedev and [7] Khachanov went through in straight sets over Mpetshi Perricard, Monfils and Carballes Baena respectively.

[4] Rublev and [7] Musetti went through in 3 sets against Carreno Busta and Bergs respectively.
It was quite an odd match between Rublev and Carreno Busta – Rublev completely dominated the first set and bagelled PCB. There were quite a few momentum shifts in the 2nd set with 3 consecutive breaks of serve towards the end of the set, Rublev letting out a big yell at one point and chuntering to himself a bit, but otherwise managing just about to keep his emotions in check as he eventually lost the set. Nothing much between the 2 players in the 3rd set until Rublev raised his level in the 10th game to get the all-important break and match win. He had a lot of crowd support. I hadn't realised he was quite so popular in China.

Home players went 1-2:
Shang lost to Buyunchaokete in 3 sets.

Zhang lost to Davidovich Fokina in 3 sets. After having a very patchy season and a few injury problems, this was a very good win for ADF. Some entertaining rallies between them, ADF looking a lot more composed than I’ve seen him for a while, saving 7/9 of the BPs he faced and converting all 4 against Zhang. 27 W/20 UE and 15/19 net points won for him. The highlights are worth a watch.
