His 50km/h 2nd serve was getting thumped.

Well done GGL on his 2nd title.

GGL follows up the best win of his career with a second career title :yeah:

The story of Nieminen's career in a nutshell. He had so many break points in the 1st set, but GGL took his chances.

Not a bad match, but that Nieminen 2nd serve under pression has always been a liability and it was shown to be the case.

Jarkko didn't play a bad match and neither did GGL, there was some high quality stuff during the match but as AJ said, the old saying "you're only as good as your second serve" has some truth into it and when Jarkko didn't find the first serve at the last game GGL punished.

Well done on saving the previous match points though. GGL got a bit lucky though since Jarkko had GP at the last game and GGL got a mishit return on the sideline

Well at least Jarkko made a final again. Shows that he might have another title in him. Grats to GGL and his fans.

Well he wasn't favoured to win most of them, unlike Monfils. Llodra and maybe this one were his best chances to win another title.

Twice against Federer and Nalbandian, Gaudio on clay, so 5 out of 8 he was a clear underdog. The Schalken one was his 2nd tour event.

Both played some good tennis, but as already said, Jarkko´s second serve really let him down. His serve has improved, but under pressure he still hits that second serve soft and short. In the last game he donated all the deuce points to GGL and then had to come up with spectacular shots to save those mp´s, so it was only a matter of time before GGL won it. That last point was horrendous, such a soft 2nd serve, a routine return was all it took for GGL to seal the deal. I feel bad for Jarkko, but at least his game is looking pretty good at the moment, hopefully he can continue his good form!

It was there to take for Nieminen. Unfortunately he lost because of two reasons.
1: Second serve was much too weak, especially in the deciding moments. His serve has improved but in tight spots he still pushes it in and gives the opponent all the tools.
2: Too much going for the lines when it was not necessary. It's great to attack, but he needs the right moment for it. Down the line backhand with no top spin is very difficult. Especially in a tight spot.

The match point was quite sad to look. S&V can work, but behind a weak second serve it was never going to work. GGL had all the time to move, decide and hit the ball. He was able to hit it above the net from the middle of the court.
