Third-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero beat fellow Spaniard Oscar Hernandez 6-3, 6-4 Wednesday in the second round of the Palermo International. Ferrero is seeking his first title of the year. He won the fifth and decisive match in Spain's Davis Cup tie with Italy on Sunday. Ferrero will face Germany's Tomas Behrend, who beat fifth-seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
