Elena Dementieva withstood a second-set rally by fellow Russian Vera Douchevina on Tuesday to advance to the third round of the Pilot Pen Tournament, 6-2, 6-4. Dementieva, who is seeded fourth in the tournament and ranked sixth in the world, seemed poised to dominate the match, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the second set.
