Defending champion Jose Acasuso advanced to the second round at the BCR Open on Monday, beating Juan Ignacio Chela 6-2, 6-4. Seventh-seeded Paul-Henri Mathieu of France also won, downing David Sanchez of Spain 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Florian Mayer of Germany topped Oscar Hernandez of Spain 6-2, 6-0, and Florent Serra of France defeated Victor Crivoi of Romania 3-6, 7-6, 6-1.
