Feels like this is the key match to Rafa if he is to make a deep run here at Wimbledon. If he flunks it, he is pretty much done at this Slam.

Kukushkin is solid grass courter and the match is likely scheduled on the hazardous Court 1.

Not going to be easy. Nadal in tight 4 sets or maybe 5..

Rafa in 3, max. 4 sets.

With Mischa out, Rafa's fans are now worried about Kukushkin, who was not given a thought as a threat to Rafa before Mischa's exit. Who could blame them, such are Rafa's results at Wimbledon since 2011?

Don't worry guys, Rafa has a good chance to make it to QF and beyond, this time around. Vamos.

Nadal can't afford a slow start here. He lost the Muller match in the first two sets, not after 28 games in the fifth set..

Total different mental game compared to Roland Garros. In light of what happened last few years here, players believe they can beat him if they can just catch a little bit of momentum.

They are a fragile bunch :boxing: those Rafa fans.
I'm a Nadal fan, whereas they are Rafa fans.

Muller and Kukushkin are different players, so I don't see what the slow start vs Muller has to do with Kukushkin.
And Nadal didn't choose to start slow vs Muller, its not something he can stop from happening by simply saying "I won't start slow today".

What's the problem with being realistic? Rafa is vulnerable in Wimbledon and no stranger to early exits, so it isn't so unfounded that we fear what will happen in his next match.

Nadal is lucky with his draw in a sense that most big servers are in the other part of the draw (Raonic, Querrey, Isner, Karlovic), only Kyrgios is in his half but he'll likely lose to either Zverev or Djokovic.

So QF is very likely and even a SF if DelPotro bends over as usual or gets knocked out earlier.

Kukushkin should make it competitive for a set or two, we'll see.

Nadal fans should be worried about Herbert who is a big server and beat Zverev pretty comprehensively.
Only the Nadal fans that thought MZverev was a threat to Nadal....
MZverev is utterly harmless to anyone with a weapon, and Nadal would have utterly destroyed MZverev just as Herbert did :clapsss:
As for Nadal-Herbert, Nadal won their only meeting 61 61 on indoor hardcourt.

Herbert is a mental midget so I don't expect him to beat Nadal. But with his big serve he might make it to a TB or two. The other thing is his serve, though big, is quite easy to read, so once Nadal starts to read it he will cruise. But lets not get ahead, 2nd round first.

Its about time.
He deserves some luck of the draw for the first time in his career.
