This match looks good. It will be a tough start for Ferrer, who is having some difficulties over the last months in terms of game performance. After a totally terrible clay season (where Sousa won only his first match of his first clay tournament in Casablancas, losing in a row all the other 8 matches of the clay season), Sousa looks like he find a good game in the grass season. Performed well against Struff, who was the bookies favourite in that match. AFter that, he took a set off Federer (it is true that Federer missed some balls in that set but credit to Joao). Now in 's-Hertogenbosch he has played the qualies so he comes to this match with confidence and with the fact of knowing how the surface behaves in real competition situations. He defeated Kevin Krawietz with great serving stats (like 75% of his first serves in and like 70% of his second serves won, without facing a break point) and today he hammered Reister. There were not the best rivals in the world of course, but this surely brings him good sensations.

As for Ferrer is concerned, he lost his last match against Nadal in an awful game, without intensity and will to fight in the last two sets (by the way, I had a bet with real money on +35.5 games in that match and I only needed him to win 4 games in that last two sets, so you will now understand that I am rooting for Joao  ). He had a good performance in 's-Hertogenbosch years ago but the last year he lost in two against Malisse. How will Ferrer play in Tuesday? I simply don't know, but I do not expect him to play a great tennis, hence Sousa will have his chances. But tough to tell if he will be ready for the upset.

H2H is 0-1 for Sousa, their only match was last year in Kuala Lumpur (where Sousa won his first ATP tournament). Discuss :)

Interesting.

Ferrer was in the worst form of his life last time, but Sousa has improved drastically on the slicker surfaces.

I firmly believe Sousa's future is on the slicker surfaces, not the slower and the reason being his backhand is utter garbage. He has a big serve and forehand and knows how to hide his backhand, for me he can only compete at 250 and 500 atp tour level on the hardcourts and grass... on clay his results at tour level are garbage and the reason is is because the claycourt specialists know how to find and break down his backhand. Watching him against Federer and he really is the deal outside of clay.

Whether he'll beat Daveed here, I'm not sure. Probably a 3 setter.

Honestly, Sousa has an huge chance here. Not the favourite, obviously, but we have an upsert alert here. His game, searching for his forehand everytime, suits pretty well on grass. He loves to run around his BH and hit in-side-out forehands with some slice which really makes damage on this surface.

Really hard job for Ferrer to debut his grass season. Hope that Sousa doesn't flop with this chance.

Aside from Buenos Aires, Ferrer's hardly been lighting it up in ATP 250s over the last year. So I wouldn't be surprised if Sousa wins this, especially as he seems to be in good form at the moment.
