Could have been a Slam QF a couple of years ago and now we get a CH R2.....

Still - kudos for both players for digging in the mud, although probably from different reasons (Tsonga for playing himself into form, Troicki for a poor ranking and general bad play)

Troicki for a poor ranking and general bad play
What's happened to him?
240... that's really bad, and looking at his recent result list, he kept losing left and right after AO to players in 200's, his best win was against Daniel Brands (168 at that time) in Lille in March.

Not sure why Tsonga is playing challengers. He won a 250 tournament earlier this year, so it's not like he isn't good enough for the main tour anymore, that he has to play challengers. I thought he would have played in one of the clay 250 tournaments this week instead of this challenger event.

Bordeaux challenger is a very good one with a lot of tradition in a nice club (it used to be an ATP event decades ago). For the French players, it is sometimes better to start back or take some rhythm back in a place where they feel well.
Same for Lucas Pouille who has not won a single match since his semi final at the AO earlier on this year.

Likely for a number of reasons. It's a CH 110, so slightly less than half the points of playing in Estoril or Munich, but without the travel if he happened to be in France. He also likely received a nice appearance fee, as he is certainly the top draw for the tourney (along with Pouille) and they have been marketing around him.

Why not make some money, play at home and have what should be a fairly easy tournament to tune-up for Madrid after having to pull out from Monaco.
