Re: World Group Rd 1 - Russia vs. Serbia

Assuming:

Russia - Davydenko, Youzhny, Tursunov and Safin (Maybe Andreev)

Serbia - Djokovic, Tipsarevic and Zimonijc

Looks like this will be the featured tie, which means live coverage in the US on TTC :woohoo:

Awesome! Good for TTC. Especially since the USA-Austria tie will probably be a blowout, while Serbia vs. Russia will be a pretty tight, probably.

Well TTC doesn't get much choice (I don't think). They always show a 2nd tie in the early rounds and I think the one they show is whichever the ITF deems to be the 'featured tie' - the one that has international tv feeds, etc. I'm glad it's this one as at least on paper it should be the best (which is probably why it is the featured one anyway  )

I know Viktor might not be able to play in this tie, but could he have been committed to play here and at Poland in the same week?

Considering he's never actually been on the team before, he probably committed, and now that he's been named, withdraw :p They usually take Bozoljac, or Pashanski ;)

Serbian team is in Moscow already. Novak said that he's confident about their win because he's planning on winning all 3 matches.

I hope Russians can teach him a lesson. :)

Why did the Russians choose indoor hard?

Wouldn't clay be a better choice?

I think because Youzhny is better on it and Davydenko despite doing well on clay doesn't adapt well to changing surfaces. I'm guessing also that if the players were asked that they would choose to play on the same surface as the tournaments preceding/following it if they didn't believe any surface would be advantageous.

Fair enough.

Davydenko vs. Djokovic :yeah:

Hope Kolya doesn't get thrashed.
