Interesting subject. Hermaphrodites are generally held to hail from Europa, a cold, icy moon of the planet Jupiter, the resulting low temperatures being the cause of their indeterminate gender.

Unsurprisingly, both the Martian and Venusian populations seemed doomed to extinction until they established a hysperspace link across the solar system, enabling free travel between the two worlds and the consequent breeding of the genders. The results of this genetic union then travelled to Earth, setting themselves up as the next evolutionary link after the apes. We are the Venusian-Martians! Oh yes, it's all there in von Daniken's theories if you look closely enough.

Venus was the female love interest to Steve Zodiac in Fireball XL5, proving if nothing else that Gerry Anderson is also a devotee of this theory. Not to mention Richard Williams, of course.

One can only conclude that the Mysterons in Captain Scarlet are male, hailing as they do from Mars, and their deep resonant voices would seem to support this contention.

Consumer studies have shown that men tend to buy an awful lot of Mars bars, while women go in for the Venus leg razor big-time. Of course, if we're going to start discussing the appeal of chocolate bars, it's obvious that both Galaxy and Milky Way have got the mass market sewn up between them.
