Truly one of the worst serving performances in this sport in the last few years :worship:
Really just a ridiculous match, though. Ryan hit some nice shots but played some stretches like he hadn't touched a racket in 6 months :silly:

Shaky, shaky stuff from Ryan at the end of the match. Served for it at 5-2 and threw in 3 double faults and then made a bunch of errors at 5-4 to struggle to close it out.

Love the fighting spirit and winning attitude but he needs to stop getting frustrated so easily after a few bad points and chucking the racket around. :p

Funniest part was serving in the third set. Three DFs in a row from 30-love up. Missed his first and then saved the breakpoint with a second about 110 MPH body serve

Are you kidding me?
I almost thought he was tanking because for most of the match he was DFing games away and acting like he didn't care. Usually he would have broken like 4 rackets in this match, but he barely threw his racket.

Guys Ryan played very sick. He was throwing up and stuff earlier today and yesterday. That's why he was so inconsistent. Hanescu should be ashamed. Props to Ryry

It's because he was sick

He looked sick, his body language was very lethargic and low energy. Ryan played alright considering that, outside of the serving, which was very poor, but on the big points he usually got the job done. Hanescu played well in spurts but couldn't maintain that form, and Ryan started getting on top of him in rallies from the middle of the second set on. The final point of the match was awesome grinding from Harrison to hit a BH DTL to win when Hanescu was bossing him around the entire point.

Ryan won when not at his best, even against a clay specialist it's a job well done.

The 19 year old fights with everything he has from a set down after having thrown up all morning, and the people on MTF still shit all over him. I guess it's more hip to look cool and tank than it is to win ugly and scrap out a victory when you're not feeling your best to modern tennis fans.

Easy dude, sorry I don't have time to keep tabs on what Ryan does with his morning

lol, you've gotta be kidding me. I've been one of longest Harrison supporters on this board + I didn't know he was sick which helps explain the frustration.

Back in 08 when he was 16...

Smoke and Grinder, you guys are great posters and I wasn't aiming anything specifically at either one of you. TBH I don't think that Harrison is in the top 10 in terms of natural talent in the 18-22 year old class of current Americans, but anybody who is willing to work so hard at the game and give it his or her all 24/7 on and off the court has my respect.

I just get really disgusted at the lack of work ethic that a lot of juniors (particularly in the US) show nowadays, so I guess that that is a sore spot.

Ok cool, because I am as much in support of Ryan as possible. It's just that nobody other than Grinder or I really commented negatively on this match

And that is a pretty bold statement. One that I will disagree with for a few reasons :p But of course, it has a lot to do with how you want to define "talent". That's always tricky.

The real embarrassment is Hanescu who I guess has called it quits for the rest of the year in his mind or something. Harrison is a clown but at his age you can be a clown, I'm even willing to forgive Tomic for some of his clown antics if he stops being a mug soon. I can't see why Harrison can't have a Fish like career.

Ryan made a huge effort to play this match considering he faced some health issues the day before, so the young american deserves a lot of respect for this.
Berdych or Tsonga would retire after losing the opener.
