Superb win. James is definitely in the top 100 after Wimbledon now. This will be his first time into the 3rd round of a slam, with a possible shot at a 4th round appearance. Fognini/Pospisil is a great draw to have on grass.

Really fought his way out of some tricky positions, which is impressive considering it's Ward

Ward has a shot at the quarter finals here.

Didn't think he would hold his nerve here - congrats! Vesely was awful, but still. Winnable 3R as well against Popsicle/Fog.

Quarter-finals might be asking a bit much but a 4th round showing is entirely possible. That said, you never know. If he meets Bedene or Brown in the 4th round then you may be right

Great win for Ward, totally deserved. Better player on distance. :yeah: :yeah:

Really impressive start in first set, Vesely showed up in second set and that set was much closer, with multiple opportunities for James to break, but in the end it didn't matter and he took second set, which IMO was crucial for final outcome. Still, would be much easier, if he could return second serves better. Actually, that can be said about both of them.

Vesely had first BPs in third set and small collapse from Ward allowed him to convert one of them, and because he still was serving well, that was enough to win this set quite comfortable.

Ward hold his nerve in 4th, because even with break lead, he still gave some chances for rebreak, was missing too many first serves, but Vesely couldn't capitalize with some good play from Ward as well.

Utterly disgusting that after a pathetic first half the year James Fraud flukes his way into the top 100 just because Ferrer withdrew late leaving no seed in this section. The only consolation for the sport is that his stay in the top 100 should be mercifully short.

Great win for James Ward. Outclassed Vesely in the first set, and dug out the 2nd set tiebreak after missing many break chances in the set then going 3-0 down. Quality seemed a bit lower from both in the latter part of the 3rd set and the 4th set to be honest, Vesely took a couple of MTOs for his shoulder I think which might have had something to do with that, but Ward got the job done in the end despite dropping a set.

Pospisil up 2-0 against Fognini right now, I was actually thinking Fognini might be a more winnable match since he could go into full clown / tank mode, but either one is theoretically winnable. Even if not, great result to secure top 100, a first 3rd round appearance, and some good practice / confidence building before Davis Cup in a couple of weeks :yeah:

Vesely down. That leaves just 7 of the Kei generation standing.

Cant be mad at Ward for taking his chance when the draw opens up. With this, his challenger results and DC he deserves top 100 too.
