First win for Kavcic on grass in 6 years. Probably not deserving of a thread but a shock result, Kavcic hurt himself late on in the third and Sugita literally gifted Kavcic the match, expect him to pull out of his next match it looked quite bad (hip upper leg area)

Groin, maybe.

Was certainly a mugtastic final tiebreak from Sugita. Keep it in court, run your opponent around, he probably wins in five.
Yeah I think Kavcic would have retired he could barely move at one point Sugita just kept missing, to lose in straights to Kavcic (who had no practice time) on grass is quite shocking in itself , especially given Sugita had been in good form.

I am happy to see Kavcic win this, but Sugita should be ashamed.

That's not true, he beat Vardhan in straight sets at the Olympics in 2012. I was at the match.

It's a good win for Kavcic who started the match well and always looked like the better player. Obviously Sugita is ranked below him but Blaz has always been hopeless on grass so it's was good to see him going into the match with the confidence to win. :yeah:

YAAAAAY! :D

Blaž finaly winning a match on grass!
Was lucky with the draw and even more lucky that Mugita didn't take advantage of his injury.

Simon will probably routine him in the next round. Still, healthy Blaž could offer some resistance since Simon won't just blow him off the court.

Kavcic suggesting in interview he thought at the time of the injury he'd have to retire if he lost the tiebreak, and that "he couldn't walk" (clearly he improved a bit after treatment, but still).

This happens sometimes, though. You are just not absolutely sure about how hurt your opponent is, and end up playing while still wondering. And lose your focus and game completely.
