In some ways it is understandable he went off the rails:

-he had an insane amount of media attention. Hard to deal with at such a young age
-hes from Australia and the tour is so far away. Gets lonely
-grew up very sheltered. The wide world hit him too hard

25 now and basically a year to regroup, we will see if he is actually worth a damn, or if he's a genuine bum

He used to beat Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev when on his game.

Didn't play Thiem much but I'd wager he would've beaten him off clay too
