Wilander in French L'Équipe :

The Serb hadn't lost a single game this season, and only the corona virus was able to slow his momentum down.

In addition to Djokovic, the young players in particular would have a major disadvantage due to the interruption: "They faced the great chance of getting closer to the big three and being able to fight them in a Grand Slam," said Wilander. "Tennis players like Shapovalov, Tsitsipas or Aliassime will grow with the maximum number of games. When they are young, they are not particularly interested in training. All they want is to spend almost four hours on a tennis court and against better tennis players than they fight for victories themselves, "said the Eurosport expert.

"Winners", if you will, are those athletes who injured themselves after the Australian Open. "When all of this returns to normal, everyone will start from scratch, but at the moment it is impossible to know when it will be. Many boys are physically preparing at home not to lose their physical shape, but they know that it is very difficult for them to play again this season, "Wilander estimates the current situation.

It is Roger Federer who, according to Wilander, can be seen as another loser together with Serena Williams. "For them, time is not their friend because they know that they are almost at the end of their careers," explains the seven-time Grand Slam winner.

Djokovic and Nadal were poised to split the remaining 3 slams, most of the masters, and every single week at #1 all season, they have both lost out considerably from this imo, especially if USO and RG are not played

Am I the only one who thinks Federer was hit hardest by this? This year was his last realistic chance to win a slam imo, he’s turning 40 next year. Now this year is basically cancelled 40-15 is probably going to be the closest he gets.

Fred will have to eclipse "Muscles " Ken Rosewall if he is to win another major.
But a fluff piece of an interview really from Wilander, and nobody knows who or when or where tennis will return.

NextGen is the winner. It's sad we will never how long it took for NextGen to take over in normal circumstances.

Yes, you are. Federer wasn't winning anything significant this year. Federer might be the only tennis player in the world that the virus actually helps because it will allow him to maintain his records for years to come (and possibly ever).

Djokovic was about to lose the #1 ranking, because he almost lost to Monfils in straight sets, and his AO Final was the most unconvincing slam victory of his career.
Djokovic was in for a horrible clay season, and Federer/Rafa would have most likely beaten him at Wimbledon.
After all, Rafa only lost 10-8 in the 5th Set at 2018 Wimbledon, and Federer had match points at 2019 Wimbledon, so Djokovic cannot afford any slippage....

Just shows what a weak era this is, that we can know everything in advance and aging fossils can vulture all the trophies.

He won every match this year. You need to get over it. He is a winner.

I don't usually agree with Wilander but this time I do.
