It doesn't seem to matter who he's up against in the final. Unless he is playing peak tennis he can't help but choke the match away!

Why?

I have this feeling he will lose to Del Po in 2015 USO final..

Why are you so terrible in making threads?

He choked in one match to Nadal, in a season Nadal played his best ever on hardcourt. That was that. Aside from that, he hasn't had horrendous US Open finals.

You have a feeling he'll lose to Del Boy, in a US Open final ...???? Del boy??? The dude he matches up GREAT against?

MUPPET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2013 USO SFs Djokovic-Wawrinka 26 76 36 63 64; Nadal-Gasquet 64 76 62 (Gasquet 5-setter against Ferrer in QF, Nadal-Robredo 60 62 62)
Djokovic played the whole season, finals AO and Wimb, 5-setter against Nadal at RG
Nadal played just the clay season after 7-months off since Wimb. 2012.

2010 USO SFs Djokovic-Federer 57 61 57 62 75; Nadal-Youzhny 62 63 64 (Youzhny 5-setter against Wawrinka in QF)

He isn't.

2007 - was still a teenager playing against peak Federer. Competitive match nonetheless, but didn't have the GS experience to compete with Federer in the key moments.
2010 - played well but Nadal was at his peak during his best season. No one expected Novak to win (who himself was in his worst season).
2011 - Won the title
2012 - This was the worst one, IMO. Wind may have been a factor but for whatever reason Djokovic played very poorly here.
2013 - His form was actually pretty good at times considering how the tournaments leading up to the USO were a bit rough for Novak. Very erratic play though. Lots of good points but lots of blunders as well. Ultimately lost because of choking and lack of mental strength.

So as far as I can tell only the 2012 and 2013 finals were not the greatest (particularly 2012). The other 3 out of 5 were not "terrible" by any means, given the circumstances.

The only final he was expected to win was 2012. He was never winning 2007 and 2010, and in 2013 Nadal looked the better player during the entire tournament/summer HC season anyway.

It's mostly circumstance, USO 2007 Federer still had an aura of invincibility and was in the middle of an incredible USO winning streak, USO 2010 Nadal was at his peak, USO 2013 Nadal was playing amazing tennis, 2012 there were bizarre weather conditions he didn't cope well with. Wouldn't classify any of those performances as terrible per se.

I wouldn't say Djokovic has been terrible in finals. He was never going to win 2007 against prime Federer and 2010 was probably Nadal at his peak. Same sort of thing in 2013, Nadal just looked dominant in the American hardcourt swing, so it was always going to be a tough ask for Djokovic. The most disappointing loss would surely be 2012 against a slamless Murray.

That being said, it would be a bit of a travesty if Novak ends his career with just one USO title.

This is pretty much it.

So basically, his problem isn't the final, but the semi-final. You cant grind for 5 sets vs Stan and expect to beat a Nadal in the Final after Rafa's tri-annual pigeon-shoot in his semi.

Also, in the 12' semi, he played 3 sets vs Ferrer on his rest day, while Murray was in his hotel room, almost certainly glaring angrily at his entourage and praying for more wind, but resting nonetheless.

I guess you're forgetting who Novak defeated to win his solitary title. ;)
still h2h 1-2 against Rafa in USO final.
He should be proud of himself for beating Rafa once there. Even ending up as 1-4 against Rafa isn't bad for him considering his ability compared to Rafa

Then how do you explain this year's USO? Obviously Djokovic had more stamina than Nishikori. For someone as fit as Djokovic, you can't use stamina as a main excuse, though it might have affected him to a certain degree. Djokovic simply underperforms at USO and there will always be excuses for his losses.

If it was easy to play AO, RG and Wimb. finals (+ many Masters finals) and then USO final, I guess Borg would have won at least one.

The year Sampras made his only RG SF (1996) he lost in Wimb. QF, winning three consecutive Wimb. before that and four consecutive after, but after usually going out at RG and clay Masters in 2R.

Sampras and Nadal are alike in winning majority of their titles for a half of the season only, Nadal the first half AO-Wimb, Sampras the second Wimb-USO-WTF.

Sampras 2 AO + 5 masters (IW or Miami).
Nadal 2 USO + 5 HC masters (Canada, Cinci, Shanghai), with two of them + USO in 2013. but after 7 months off since wimb 2012 (2R loss) and skipping AO 2013 + Wimb. 2013(1R loss).

Federer and Djokovic are alike in winning the titles throughout the whole year every year.

Yes Fakeric has his peak which is 2011. But before or after that he is always the shadow of Rafa. Rafa leads both H2H and slam H2H, proving his superior consistent ability in general compared to Fakervic.
