Poor Safin. He could break, but he couldn't hold when it counted, so judging from comments made by people who were watching, I'll conclude it was the knee. Mentality is always an issue, but if his knee was bothering him, that's quite possibly the biggest worry his mind can have now.

I really, really hope Federer is just being paranoid and Nadal's not getting coaching during their matches, because that would make me furious.

No Hamburg, so that doesn't surprise me. When I said I thought both would play, I always said, unless the final is five hours like last year's, but I didn't expect that. Thank you for surprising me, Federer; you did unexpectedly well.
