Who is the "Well Known Veteran"?

From Jon Wertheim's column this week -

This goes to the discussion a few weeks ago about player-fan interactions. I took my eight-year-old son to the Mercedes-Benz cup in L.A. He had his oversized tennis ball ready for autographs, and he experienced both ends of the "cool player" spectrum -- Bob Bryan, James Blake and Dominic Hrbaty graciously signed his ball -- A WELL KNOWN VETERAN, on the other hand, surrounded by body guards passed by my son and watched as his body guard shoved my son out of the way. I followed the entourage to the entrance of the players' lounge to speak with this guard, and A WELL KNOWN VETERAN stood just inside the door and heard my conversation with the guard. He looked at my son and still didn't sign the ball. By the way, it was "Kids Day" and A WELL KNOWN VETERAN had just won his match. He lost the next round -- I like to think it was cosmic justice.

Thanks. My instincts are to name -- and thus publicly shame -- the misanthrope player. But without getting his side of the story, or at least independent corroboration, it's not really fair.

Obviously Andre's the best known veteran but he never lost. The player won a match so he had to have lost the next day so it's no first round loser. Are we really classing Tommy Haas or James Blake as veterans? Paradorn? Anyone know what day was Kids Day? The mystery deepens :p

Ginepri is not a veteran or well known.

I know, but Ginepri has been playing for some years now on ATP being a veteran doesn't have to mean being old.
About well known, if I'm right Robby won a tourney in an all American final the week before, so I guess his popularity grew even if it's for just 1 week due to media exposure.

Spadea lost in 1st round
Now I really want to know.....Everything points to Haas but I don´t picture him doing that...

Everything though indeed points to Haas. He was the only well known player who won on Kid's Day ( Tuesday ) and lost his next match.
well when that guys says bodygaurd...its probly a coach or friend or an assistant to the coach...
Sounds like it could be Haas. Isn't he known to sometimes get in black moods?
Bodyguards are present at all the tournaments for all the players, it's not the player's personal bodyguard.
It had to be Haas, he is the best known among that bunch. I cannot believe Paradorn
did this - I cannot believe it ... oh wait, Paradorn not eligible according to the wording.. Tommy has been known to be ...uh, moody?

BTW love your Budweiser truck :worship:
we have several hints:

1) the player won his 1st round match on the kids day, that was tuesday. i just looked after the OOP for tuesday and found these players:
fleishman, hamad, hrbaty, muller, blake, hernych, haas, ginepri, agassi

2) the player lost his 2nd round match, so we still have fleishman, hamad, haas, blake, hernych

3) james blake "graciously signed his ball" so he's out of this

4) a well known veteran? are fleishman, hernych, hamad well known veterans? no.

AAAAAAND the winner is..................tommy :D
