There is some bloke alongside Mark Petchey for the Nadal/Baghdatis match who I have not heard before, and he sounds absolutely awful.

Terrible squeaky voice, and doesn't pronounce his words properly at all.

Surely they can do better than that!?

Yes, he has been their all week.

I agree he is terrible.

Petchey seems to correct him an awful lot, and kind of makes a bit of a fool out of him.

I miss dear old Bill Threlfall.

he used to ramble on like all hell but he was fun and he'd forgotten more about tennis than most people will ever know

I just find it strange because they've got so many options normally.

I'm no fan of Barry Cowan, but Petchey is good, Fleming is good, and so is Barry Millns and Leif Shiras.

This guy sounds like he's come straight out off the West Ham terraces. He also sounds about 18.

I don't mean to be harsh, but he's spoiling it.

If he's not an ex-player, to me that's a step in the right direction because it's nice to have journalists and genuine career-broadcasters on there, but to do that, you've got to have a great voice, vocabulary and journalistic nous.

Admittedly I've only heard 20 minutes of this bloke, but he doesn't appear to have any of that.

Yeah he's not great but after watching so many matches on betfair this year he doesn't seem too bad to be honest. He doesn't seem clueless or anything just totally mediocre.
It's his first event though so give him a chance. he could grow into the role or something.

Sam Smith is just plain annoying and goes on about how she is drooling over tall guys, anytime Joachim Johansson plays she is practically moaning down the microphone

Bill Threlfall was alright, don't mind him, but by far the best is Peter Fleming, then Barry Cowan.

Why not simply use the ATP Masters Series commentators? Or are those actually the guys you hear on Sky? No idea, since I don't know the names.

Petchey is quality?

Sure, he is not bad, but he is not the best, he can be awfuly sarcastic at times but he can be quite funny as well.

I laughed when he said "I never knew there was 2 weeks to a grand slam until I was commentating"

I like the way they take the piss out themselves, when they weren't bad players in their own right, I loved the match Cowan played against Sampras at Wimbledon, it was classic.

Fleming was the best player out of the bunch.

I like Petch, I find him funny. Sure, he wasn't the best player but he knows that, he takes the piss out of himself often. So does Cowan, I quite like when they commentate together.

Yeah no doubt, I quite like most of them, people seem to adore frew mcmillan but he bores me to death with his voice. I like a bit of humour and Petchey certainly brings that to the table.

Frew is ok, slightly overrated if you ask me. He knows his stuff but I don't really care about half the stats he provides.

McEnroe and Petchey would be my ideal combination
