Who are you rooting for?

Want to win: De Minaur or Auger-Aliassime. ADM because he has been so 'consistently good' over the past few years that IMO it would be well-deserved. FAA because his resurgence has been one of the better things about the 2025 season and I'd like to see him back in the top 10.

Mixed feelings: Djokovic, Rune or Musetti. On the one hand, I can see a positive for all of them and there's certainly no question about any of them not being a worthy winner. On the other hand, I'd have a few gripes with any of them winning. Probably mean and petty of me, but there you go - it's the end of the season, we're all allowed to be grumpy at this time of year.

Neutral: Tien, Bergs, Vacherot, Rinderknech. I like them all and it would be a great story if any of them won, but I don't think any of them have done enough to 'deserve' it yet. In Tien's case, I also think too much success too early and the pressure that comes with it can sometimes be detrimental (FAA being a case in point) and that it can be better to progress more gradually.

Don't want to win: Medvedev. His recent behaviour has crossed a line for me and I'm no longer a fan.

Musetti hasn't done enough to be a worthy winner for me. He has reached only one hard court masters QF in his entire career. I have no problem if he wins a clay masters title though.
Kinda agree with you in case of Tien, as a fan of him.

De Minaur is a very solid top ten player but he only broke through at the top level last year. Before he had good results but he was not yet a top ten regular.

To say more why I picked like that: it would be very nice if Med manages to win another big title. It would be his first title after more than 3 years, and should add a lot of confidence and new flame/hunger for more. Would also be a great return to winning ways. Hope he does win it in the end, and most ideally, by beating Djokovic in the final. Djokovic is actually the second one I think I would like to see win the Shanghai title, but since Med is first, I want the final to go this way.

Legend Djokovic of course, I'm so tired of Spanish twerking, Italian clostebol, Brazilian burgers, Tsitsipas' Instagram, Monfils' far too long farewell tour and Rune's mother.

Kinda agree with you about Musetti. I was thinking more about him being a deserved Masters winner in terms of his overall ability level, but you're right that it would make more sense for him to win one on clay than on hard. Having said that, there's not always a lot of sense (or fairness) to tennis. Also, his game may be improving on hard courts, although it's a bit difficult to tell because he hasn't always faced quality opposition. His W/L index is up to 18-10 (0.643) on hard courts this year, compared to 74-75 (0.497) for his career overall.

That's actually one of the reasons I like de Minaur. He's not a super-talented player who's coasted on his ability, he's someone that's worked incredibly hard and absolutely maximised his game.

For example I am a fan of Ruud and I believe he is more talented than De Minaur and he currently has a somewhat better career because he burst on the scene earlier but I believe De Minaur is definitely a better player and will most likely end with the better career if you look at their current forms.

I don't think De Minor will have a better career than Ruud. Similar at most, yes, but better? Definitely not. Both luck some aspects that could make them multipla Masters winners at the very least. One time Masters winners maybe, but not multiple times, let alone Slam winners.

So not Washedvedev?
For your info, that 'washed' player you're talking about is a Slam winner and multiple Masters/WTF winner. So he's far more decent than you're giving him the credit for.

He's been a journeyman since Wim '24
Still much more credit than you're giving him, sorry. He's had a much better career than other players in this poll apart from Djokovic.

Ruud looks like he is declining fast. Tokyo was encouraging but he then had a wrist injury and he has had many physical setbacks over the past year and half which could affect him long term. I hope I am wrong and that he can turn his career around but I am pessimistic.

Yes, his results at slams are very concerning but slams are not the only events that give points even though they are the most prestigious ones.
Do you see him ever making it back to the Top 10?

I made a prediction in late 2024 that he would permanently fall out of the Top 10

Bolded: Quite a bold (ba-dum-tsih) statement.

Consider that Ruud has been in three GS finals, three MS1000 finals (won one) and one ATP Finals final (qualified three times; made it out of the round-robin each time). Prize money: 24.9 million dollars.

AdM so far: zero GS finals (or even semis), one MS1000 final, and qualified once to the ATP Finals (didn't get out of the round-robin). Prize money: 19.6 million dollars.

Quite a bit of catching up to do. They are roughly the same age too. Ruud born in December 1998 and De Minaur February 1999.

We shall see.
