I've divided them into 2 groups:

  • GROUP 1 "Lower seeds": players seeded 17-32
  • GROUP 2 "Unseeded" players
My picks:

Group 1:
1) Rublev - is showing great form in the lead-up tournaments
2) Kyrgios - on a good serving day he can take out anyone
3) Hurkacz - good ATP Cup performance backed up by good showing in Auckland
4) Evans - signs of good form in pre-AO events

Group 2:

1) Humbert - same as above
2) Paul - good showings last two weeks now in the SF in Adelaide
3) Sinner - not great start to 2020 but we all know his potential

What's your opinion?

The special one

Definitely Rublev out of the 17-32 seeds. He's on course to win back to back titles and has a favourable draw where he looks the man to beat in his section. I'd favour him in a potential R4 match against Zverev based on form and confidence, that's if Zverev even reaches that stage of course. Kyrgios is also one you want to avoid because he can peak at any time.

Unseeded dangerous players would be Cilic, Anderson, Sinner (could be a banana skin for Shap in R2) Verdasco. I would've said Struff, but he's been drawn against Djokovic in R1, he just barely missed out on a seed and gets drawn the tournament fave in R1, shit luck he would've been very dangerous for most of the seeds outside the top 8, but has no chance here
