Nadal's forehand was non-existent in 2015.
He lost confidence in it, completely, and lost to everyone.
And after losing to Djokovic at 2015 Roland Garros, Nadal admitted he wasn't even trying in the 3rd Set of that match.
He gave up on himself.

Worst year of his career, he was battling many problems at the time.

But as far as I know Nadal wasn't injured in 2015.
Injured in 2016, but in 2015 it was seemingly all mental.

What's interesting is that 2015 was the only year in Rafa's career in which he played all 9 Masters 1000 tournament. He played 23 tournaments, absolutely crazy for his standards. So he was healthy but played very poorly.

He was in emotional turmoil as his parents separated and his tight-knit ideal family began to crumble.

Nadal still came back to 5-5 in 1st set, but Novak dispatched him. He only faded away in the 3rd.

Still standing with my take that maybe peak Fognini would have beaten Nadal that day too, but no other clay giant (esp. no OHBHers).
