Will Andre play in Next Australian Open 2006?
Next year's event will be at Melbourne Park, from January 16-29.

September 28, 2005

THE Australian Open will offer prizemoney of $19.3 million.

...........................................
Some of his best moments have come on Rod Laver Arena...:

McNamee said he was even confident enough to predict that four-time champion Andre Agassi would return at 35.

"Andre will be back," McNamee said of the American who reached the final of the US Open last month, when only the peerless Roger Federer could stop him.

It was at the quarter-final stage of this year's Australian Open that Agassi's run came to an end. Again, it was Federer who confounded the veteran.

Theirs was just one of a collection of thrilling matches that brought a glowing assessment of the event - perhaps the best Australian Open of the modern era.

There will be new balls, as the tournament has decided to use the same Wilson brand that is favoured at the US Open.

.................................................................

Tickets for next year's Australian Open go on sale tomorrow.

The Australian

I wish! It's certainly possible he'll play 2007 too. If his motivation and fitness keeps up, he will play. He is allowed four cortisone injections a year and they do work. Look at the effect they had on him over the US Hardcourt Season. 1 Title, 1 Masters Final and a Grand Slam Final! Motivation will be the key for the next couple of years- something which Darren, Gill and Steffi will be talking to Andre about. I think he certainly wants to be at Wimbledon next year- a tournament he loves and has skipped for two years because of his back and hip. He has been quoted as saying if there is one Grand Slam he would love to win still it would be Wimbledon. My advice would be to skip the Clay Court Season- maybe just play Roland Garros and if he looses early then so be it! Or he will have to skip Wimbledon again as the Clay ruins his body.
NO he must not play Roland Garros 5 sets of clay not a good move. he should skip the clay alto gether have 2 months of fittness and family then go to Queens play there the to Wimbledon at least he will be fresh and not tied. BUT NO CLAY
His 2006 schedule looks alright except he wont play Rome, roland garros and at the most only 3 hard court tournemts before the us open with a week off in between
Your probably right. His schedule will look something like this:

Kooyong
Aus Open
San Jose
Dubai
Indian Wells
Miami
Queens
Wimbledon
LA
Washington
Cincy
US Open
Stockholm
Madrid
Paris
TMC Shanghai 2006??

I think he'll skip Indy and Toronto and focus on another title in LA, he said he wanted to play Washington in 2006, and another title in Cincy excites him before New York. This is what Andre said on www.agassiopen.com after he pulled out of this years Washington Open:

"Over the years, I have been privileged to be a part of the Legg Mason. However, at this point in my career I have to be extremely selective about the amount of matches I play in preparation of the US Open. I am sorry that I will not be there this year, but hope to return in 2006."

Bring it on Andre!!!!!!!!

No clay for sure. that is too torturous on his body. maybe he will play the tennis channel tournament which i think will be held in las vegas instead of dubai.

The Tennis Channel Open was held in Scottsdale, Arizona this year. Andre was last there in 2002, winning the event beating Juan Balcells of Spain to win his 50th ATP Tour Title. Just had a peek on www.atptennis com at next year's calendar. Tennis Channel Open is in Scottsdale and the Duty Free Mens Open is in Dubai. Where did you hear of a Las Vegas Tournament?
Andre will most certainly play the Tennis Channel Open if it is in Las Vegas!!!!!! I forgot the Adidas International. Andre may have a contract obligation to play Sydney through adidas and skip a record ninth consecutive visit to the Lawns of Kooyong!
But Andre has never played sydney and he can not play 5 matches before the Aust open. So he will play kooyong where he will get 3 matches for practice befor the AUST

You may be right about the Scottsdale/now Vegas, TC tournament...especially since Agassi (along with Sampras) are part owners(investors) in the Tennis Channel....

However, Dubai pays HUGE (all the oil money :) guarantees...it was reported that AA got somewhere between $500,000 and a cool million to play there last year...that kind of money buys a lot of books for Agassi academy...it may be too much to turn down just to show up....

We'll see...

I just hope AA's health holds up so he can compete well this coming year!!!
With Federer kind of making the final result of most tournaments not so interesting, it will be nice to have Andre to keep the tournaments exciting....
Just my opinion....

jcm
Just skip the claycourt tournaments, including RG. And play Wimbledon for a change. Want to see him play on grass again. Want it real bad.
I really hope that Andre plays at Queen's I will have to make a trip down, this might be the last time I see him play. (LIVE)
I hope Andre will be able to play the Aussie Open. Hope his back/nerve will coperate.
