Week 47: 2015 Challenger Tour Finals

Location: São Paulo, Brazil
Prize Money: $220K
Surface: Indoor Clay
Balls:
Site: Esporte Clube Pinheiros, Rua Angelina Maffei Vita, 493, Jardim Europa, São Paulo
Starting Date: November 23
2014 Champion: Diego Schwartzman (Argentina)
Format: The ATP Challenger Tour Finals is a tennis tournament played at the end of each year, involving the top seven players in that year's ATP Challenger Tour, plus an invited player from the tournament's host country.
Like the ATP World Tour Finals, the ATP Challenger Tour Finals is not a straightforward knock-out tournament. Eight players are divided into two groups of four, and play three round-robin matches each against the other three players in their group. From there, the two players with the best records in each group progress to the semifinals, with the winners meeting in the final to determine the champion.
Tournament website: ATP Challenger

A few days ago the preliminary information about the 2015 Challenger Tour Finals was finally added to the calendar Challenger Tour | Calendar | ATP World Tour | Tennis

I guess it's time to start discussing who is going to enter or even if the players are indeed interested to enter.

YTD Challenger Ranking is also recently available (this year on Twitter :) )

(composed by Josh Meiseles, ATP Staff, as previous years)
Josh has promised to tweet the updated standings out each Monday until it's up (see his account https://twitter.com/jmeistennis )

IMO there isn't much evidence that the ranking leader Hyeon Chung will enter. Let's discuss.

Update ranking (via @jmeistennis)

Is the ranking anywhere public?

Which tournaments are counted?

John Millman for example:

Here are also tournaments from 2014 counted?

Re: Week 47: 2015 Challenger Tour Finals

^The current (2015) Challenger Tour Finals is the 5th (since 2011). On old version of the ATP site we had YTD Challenger rankings regulations and the ranking itself (at least last months before finals in 2011-2014). I guess it had semiofficial nature, because you could not find it in the ATP Rulebook. I think all stuff was prepared/composed by Josh Meiseles, ATP Staff (see OP). However, this year on the new version of ATP site all materials disappeared and Josh continues to publish the rankings only via his tweeter account.
As far as I remember, the rankings are based on all challenger results after previous year deadline for tour finals. For example, this year deadline is November 02 and all results obtained by players on weeks 44-47 of 2015 year will be counting in the 2016 rankings.

Re: Week 47: 2015 Challenger Tour Finals

Let's count Millman's ranking:

8(Vancouver) + 100(Aptos) + 80(Lexington) + 48(Vicenza) + 18(Aix-en-Provence) + 55(Kyoto) + 80(2014 Yokohama) + 80(2014 Traralgon-2) + 7(2014 Traralgon-1) = 476 (exactly the same result as in the ranking table above)

Re: Week 47: 2015 Challenger Tour Finals

Yes, I also think so.

There are definitely only the best 10 Challenger tournaments (for Example Millman, Pella).

Furthermore, three weeks before the Challenger final is made a cut. The tournaments three weeks before the last final are in the actual scoring for 2015.

This means next week (2nd november) begins the new season 2016.

I think Khachanov has 289 points at Challengers after Brest:
Karen Khachanov | Rankings Breakdown | ATP World Tour | Tennis

(remove all Futures and USO quals from countable tournaments, add 25 points for Brest QF and 5 from non-countable Raanana).

Re: Week 47: 2015 Challenger Tour Finals

In my opinion Lorenzi, Pella, Bhambri, Dutra Silva, Edmund, Dzumhur, Arguello, Carballes Baena and M. Gonzalez are hot candidates to play the finals. The most of them will play two weeks before in Buenos Aires. I think, Clezar or Schwartzmann will get the WC.

Re: Week 47: 2015 Challenger Tour Finals

I am not quite sure if Yuki Bhambri will play here. In few of the recent interviews in the Indian press after he reached top 100, he indicated that he will end the season after next week's Bangkok challenger. He did not mention anything about challenger tour finals.

I hope he plays though as the monetary rewards only for playing are quite good although chances of success will be less as Yuki has not played much on clay in his career.

Re: Week 47: 2015 Challenger Tour Finals

Damir will not play, please do not think he will ruin his preparation for the new season, especially for the first few months, when he can almost exclusively play on ATP tour thanks to his current, and end year ranking, by staying in Brazil till the end of November, it is not gonna happen :)
