routine win for the better player, although cuevas is a mess on hard courts and has no business there.

regardless, berankis is quietly having a good start to the hard court season with the recanati challenger final, then last week in atlanta beating smyczek and johnson in straight sets, as well as yen-hsun lu this week, who are all good hard court players. last weeks quarterfinal loss to isner in atlanta was very close.

i see him as the favorite vs gabashvili next round ;-)

No break points faced. Solid win for Rycka. :yeah:

Seems he is finally getting some consistency and playing what we expect of someone with that talent. :worship:

Will get his revenge against Isner in the quarters.

Will play Gabashvili first, Isner potentially in the SF.

Yes, but I'm assuming he will beat Gaba. :D

EDIT: Sorry if my answer sounded rude, wasn't the intention. :wavey:

Cuevas was carrying an injury I think, so this was a expected win for Berankis

Cuevas is awful right now and bad on hard generally. Still, no denying Berankis is in form.

Berankis 2nd serve percentage (82%) was even higher than his 1st serve percentage vs Cuevas.

With him serving well, there is not a lot of players he can't beat, his baseline game is very aggressive and solid and he no doubt has all the shots.

rycka playing really well at the moment. nice to see the cilic loss hasnt gotten him to down. but the US courts have been kind to him in the past. his 2 career finals and 1 title have come in the US.

next up is gaba. definitely winnable and he should be the favorite

^ So, players don't take it that seriously, like there are a few guys who can win BL, but can't on the tour.
The point is the scheduling - someone like Cuevas who always struggles on hard would need some good prep, and he wasn't playing an event last week so there was plenty time.
