Reportedly at least 20 Indian army personnel and 43 Chinese troops were killed in "hand-to-hand fighting" in Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh where a long standing border dispute between the two countries takes place. India said the violent face-off was the result of an attempt by the Chinese side to unilaterally change the status quo in the region. China meanwhile blamed India, saying Indian troops crossed the border twice illegally and launched "provocative attacks".
