Mucho continues his streak in Valencia to 16 wins in a row. He really didn't have to do that much today, but good to see his strong form on clay is continuing.

Pico wasn't really there today, now it's time to prepare for Monte Carlo.

Mucho will play either Korolev or Haase.

Nicolas "Mucho" Almagro destroys Juan "Pico" Monaco, 6-3 6-2

Very windy conditions and Pico was very uncomfortable and upset out there while Mucho was just playing the best he could given the situation.

Time to rest for Pico and hopefully have a good showing in the coming TMS events.

Mucho will likely win the title and make it 3 in a row now.

They are 16, he came off qualies to claim his maiden title

Yes, I forgot he qualified to win his 1st title in Valencia. The wind was gusty at times, but hope Mucho can perform at the bigger clay events now.

If he wins this week he will lead the ATP in titles won this year!

We have seen Almagro impress before at smaller events but he has yet to make a real impact in the bigger events. I think he is more likely to do it this year, his consistency appears to have improved. I hope it comes to fruition.

A little surprised it was THAT easy.

Really is time for him to put together some strong runs in the bigger events...as stebs says, his consistency is a lot better.

Almagro's mind has definitely improved. From what I saw in Acapulco, and even that match against Youzhny, he's found a way to stay calmer and more focussed.

Pico

Almagro is probably the best clay court player just behind Rafa at this moment. At least from what I saw of him in Costa do Sauipe and Acapulco. Judging from his results this week, he is keeping it up :yeah:

Too easy for Almagro, the big question for him is how he will do in Monte Carlo.

Time for Nico to make a TMS final, if it does happen, I would think it will be in Rome. Hopefully Nico can win his third straight Valencia title.

I was at the match today, it wasn't even as close as the score indicates. I expected a tighter match, but Mucho dominated from the outset..made me think, how the hell is Pico ranked higher? The ridiculous cyclone conditions seemed not have bothered him a bit (and hours later even I am still covered in red clay!). Afterwards, Almagro went thru the motions in the doubles SF....very casual, lackadaisacal almost, unlike the singles match where he was hella intense. Evidently he didn't wish to waste much effort on extraneous activities. Btw, Korolev will be his opponent in semis...the two have never played before.
