Meh. Very disappointed in Del Po. He is too one dimensional at this point. This tactic may have worked against Roger and Rafa but not against Murray or Simon. He needs to improve. If he does this again next year, I'll probably just write him as a one slam wonder. There is no reason this guy should be losing to a guy like Simon with that much fire power. I'll cut him some slack this time though,.
One thing Simon does do is teach viewers (who aren't nearly as talented as he) how to win games, sets and matches. It's a bit misplaced to ask players to hit Agassi or Federer winners. Or to insist that only those types win matches. Much better to spend the time taking notes for things to do when you're next on the court.
Simon was really the fresher of the two in the 4th set and that's what it came down to at the end.
JMDP really became tired after playing more than 3 hours while Gilles was running around the court like the match had just begun.
Bien fait par Gilles
Nice try from Del Potro in the 4th after already being break down, sadly he couldn't take one of his three set points due to Simon's cool serving as well, but he put up a great fight despite obviously being tired as hell.
As for Simon, he was really patient and got rewarded, stayed cool when under pressure as well, deserved win. Has a great shot to make the Quarterfinals here, would just be his second Slam-QF, won't it?
