USO R1: Dutra Da Silva def. Sorensen 6-0 3-6 6-4 1-0 ret.

Sorensen was looking the much better player in the third set, really should have taken in comfortably after getting into a few of Dutra Da Silva's service games. He picked up some sort of injury of his right arm, had an MTO and sadly had to retire, looked in some discomfort.

This is really disappointing for Louk.

That said, its ridiculous how many retirements have happened in the 1st round - three qualifiers also have retired already. And I saw quite a few guys playing somewhat hurt over the first two days. Looks like last man standing will win this tournament :rolls:

got to feel bad for both louk and conor. To both qualify for the main draw and do something great for irish tennis and then both have to retire

first it was his right forearm, then his right thumb. He couldn't hold the racquet to hit groundies so tried playing sv for a few games. He seemed to have a calf problem too.

As was said, he looked better player in the third set. I don't think he faced a single bp in the 2nd and 3rd sets before the injury. Dutra saved 3 bps in game the injury seemed to happen (seventh game of the third).

Could be the end for Louk, certainly on the main tour.

Rogerio should play the lottery this week. First Söderling getting sick and having to withdraw in the last minute. Then Sorensen retiring during the match.

Caught bits and pieces and was impressed by Sorensen in some stretches. Quite offensive and really went for the FH when he had the chance. Maybe he was a bit too fired up considering it looked like he hurt the arm

"The Swede's place went to Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Da Silva, the luckiest of lucky losers, who took to the Grandstand court against Ireland's Louk Sorensen."

So much luck involved in this match from the off, both bad and good. Don't know what more can be added but a shame that Sorensen's golden opportunity ended with an injury. Just not happening for Ireland even when the draw opened up.

He is always injured. Just doesn't have the physique to be a professional athlete, which is a real shame as he has the game to be Top 100.

Rogerio has to be one of luckiest guys today.
First Robin withdraws and lets him get into the draw.
Then Louk retires during his match and gives him a 1st round win
