NEW YORK - The participation of Jiri Novak in the world group play-off is endangered. It is not worthy to solve it now, I juts want to play there," said Novak.
The tennis player has to be in the tranquility and will come to the Motol hospital for the supersound and procedures which should improve the venous return to the area. "It is a heavily medicable area and we can't say if he will be 100% prepared for Davis Cup. The medication doesn't guarantee that everything will come back to the perfect condition," said Kolář to the journalists.
The 30-year-old Novak has according to him problems with his right foot fro a long time. "On the hard court it has become worse. With difficulty I passed through the first round which was quite easy," said Novak who beat the Belgian Dick Norman. "I endured it but I wasn't able to play anymore," said Novak.
On wednesday played in the first round of the doubles with Tomas Cibulec but after five games gave up. "I wanted to try how I would feel before the second round of the singles but after a few games I knew it is very bad," said Novak. In the second round of the singles the 23th seed had to play with the Olympic winner Nicolas Massu from Chile. "I couldn't play anymore, I had to leave," said Novak.
The Davis Cup captain Cyril Suk may have a difficulties with the team. And Radek Stepanek doesn't play Davis Cup. If Novak wouldn't play the team no.1 would be Tomas Berdych and other players would were Tomáš Zíb, Ivo Minář, Jan Hernych, Robin Vik or Jiří Vaněk who are all players with minimum or no Davis Cup experiences. The Czech Republic is the only one team who has never left the World group.
