Positive signs for Sinner considering how he looked in the first set and a half vs McDonald.
The 1st set of this match was a bit scrappy as well, it took Sinner 3 attempts to consolidate a break lead, right at the end of the 1st set. But once he did that he was unstoppable, looked exactly like how the no. 1 player in the world should look like against a journeyman.
I guess the first decent test for Sinner will come in the 4th round.

I wasn't too impressed tbh. Second half of match was better but it never felt like Michelsen had any chance to be a threat. First set kinda sloppiness will kill Sinner once he plays a good player, he needs to put an end to those beginning blips

 

Michelsen has boosted his ranking with some runs at weak ATP events but he doesn't have a big enough game to trouble Sinner.

Correct. It's no surprise that Medvedev was top of the list. 2nd place was less obvious, but It was indeed Andrey Rublev. Easy to forget how many wins he had in 2020/2021 when he was the '500 King'. It wasn't altogether reflected in rankings because of COVID.

There is nothing much to say, this was mandatory victory for Sinner.

 

This saga may fuel Sinner to win it all. The Djokovic effect if you like. Lots of people against him, public image tarnished, now he's got something to prove, stick it to the haters. Sinner is propably not that kind of guy but this has to affect him: fight or flight. Seems to be fight.

Also Sinner may actually be (counter intuitively) in a good place mentally. Because now he knows who his true friends are on the tour, and who have been the fair weather opportunists hovering around him only to bask in his success.

 

I only saw the first set and half of the second. I was worried that Michelsen would make it close because Sinner wasn't playing that well in the first. Looks like I had no reason to be concerned. R3 should be fairly similar as well - maybe 1 close set and a relatively easy win overall

 

I think Sinner makes it to the quarters pretty easily. His first test will be Medvedev in the quarters if Medvedev can get past Mensik. But of course the real challenge will be Alcaraz in semis.

 

I think Paul will be a test. Sinner should win, but he has been clumsy lately and prone to scratchy starts - not good if you meet a good player

Despising Sinner's fanbase in case they deliberately support a doper makes sense.

However, I don't think anyone supporting Sinner after the revelations believes him guilty of intentional doping. It seems you think otherwise and thus you may consider their opinion to be misguided. But despising anyone with a misguided opinion seems like an overreaction. Most likely, all of us have a fair number of misguided opinions. Personally, I don't believe Sinner to be guilty of intentional doping, but I don't despise people just because they disagree.
